    • Good article. Barring injury or academic issues, I'd be shocked if Burbridge didn't play as a Freshman

Agreed. His numbers weren't quite as impressive this season but that was mostly due to constant double-coverage, which opened things up for his teammates. Really like Burbridge's potential and he certainly gets my vote as the top player in Michigan last season.

In fairness, most people won't need any help keeping an eye on a player that size.

He will injure way too many of our players in practice.

Saw Edmondson play this year...kid is very talented. McKinley plays a great schedule, he has seen a lot of good athletes...that will certainly help his adjustment.

                  • Pretty solid write up, as always. Thanks Dan!

The more I think about it, the more I wonder if some of these incoming freshmen could win time on the field with reckless abandon. I mean, if they have the speed for it they can torch some defenses simply by improving running routes and trying to avoid hits. Catching is one thing and I certainly understand the need for receivers to run the right routes, but AFTER the catch seems like fair game. Reading about Kings possibly being a part of kick/punt returns makes me feel the same way. He might be running for his life out there and that should be a nice rocket up his backside.

I really, really like the speed and talent we are lead to believe this class has. How many times have we heard "athletes" over the last couple of months? I'm thinking that several of them could light the field on fire given the chance and there is no better time to prove you can do it than trying to win some playing time.

*I know the staff said that Lippett will switch to WR but ask Reynolds how set in stone these situations are. It wouldn't surprise me in the least to see Lippett stick with CB and take over after Adams graduates.

For small(ish) WR he and A. Sims have vacuum hands. Kerrick looks like has great hands from the videos too.

Going to be surprised if Kings isn't filling part of the KMart role next year.

Good to see, that was part of what I loved about BJ, basically if it was near him he was pulling it in.

From what I've heard, Edmondson could jump a few of those other players you mentioned next season. He played very good competition throughout high school and has great ball skills. Really looks like a mature prospect at this point and I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the field next season.

I fully expect Lippett to stay at CB next year. I don't trust Mitchell White and the other back-ups are RS FR.

Up in the air till we hear about the waiver. I do know MSU is not half-assing that effort though, which is why it hasn't been filed yet.

While I'm sure he could be great at either, I really hope that Lippett stays at CB and embraces the position. If he can make an impact on offense in some packages, great, but in my opinion we need a huge, athletic CB with some game experience much more than we need an average-sized, athletic WR with limited game experience.

I just hope that he isn't completely set on playing WR, because while I'm sure he'd do what the coaches asked I have to think that CB is one of the hardest positions to play when you don't really want to be there.

Yea, you need absolute focus to play CB. That's true for all positions, but State plays enough man coverage that you can't have your head in the clouds. Timing on routes is really "game of inches" territory and being a quarter step behind is the difference between forcing a punt and giving up a TD. I liked how he developed as a CB down the stretch last year; definitely compares favorably to CLR as a FR. May be slightly better in coverage, not quite as physical (yet).

I really hope he does. He looked phenomenal for a first year WR-convert, and I'm extremely excited to see what he could become. We are loaded at WR now, and I feel like Lippett will serve this team much better as a CB

Plus he's the only non-FR back-up that has played decently. I thought Langford had potential, but he's back at RB after Baker left. Pretty curious to see Colquhoun at CB; he's supposedly an extremely good athlete who came in with little or no knowledge of American football.

I would agree with that,,,,Lippett looks to have very good cover skills. The problem with him at CB that I've heard, is that he not physical enough when it comes to tackling / run support.

Don't know if that is something that can develop or be taught,,,seems like you either enjoy hitting people or you don't ?

Well I think there are people that don't like contact and never will, and then there are people who aren't used to deliverying contact, or aren't comfortable enough playing their position to really committ to laying a hit down.

I have no idea which applies to Lippett, but hopefully it's not the former.

You can develop good tackling skills. Hard hitting . . . well, that's more of an attitude thing. I'd prefer that the DBs tackle properly more than I'd want them to be able to just hit hard.
