Spartans Sitting Pretty With Kizer

DeShone Kizer

Kizer is ranked by the 247Composite as the nation's No. 6 dual-threat quarterback in 2014.

Toledo (Ohio) Central Catholic four-star quarterback DeShone Kizer talks about his high interest in the Spartans following another visit to East Lansing.

    • It really sounds like the coaching staff as usual is shooting the kids straight. He knows he's highly thought of, but at the same time we're looking at others. Everyone seems to be on the same page in this recruitment. I like where we're at with this kid. He strikes me as a smart kid. What are your thoughts Steve?

    • After seeing Toledo CC play twice this year, I am not that excited about Kizer as a QB. He is a fine athlete. He is a leader, you can tell the team follows him. He is a winner. But as a passer he leaves a lot to be desired. Henderson is lightyears ahead of Kizer. So is Damion Terry.

Any chance he could be recruited for another position? TE? H-back?

Just curious, as a $$Nuts subscriber, did you happen to join tRCMB with a 30 day free-trial or something?

because we have gotten lucky the past several years that we haven't had an injury at the QB position where depth has been hurt by transfers. Ideally, the staff would like to take a QB in every class. Got lucky that the Boisture injury/transfer didn't cost the team more (although it would have been him, and not RsF Cook as an option to replace Maxwell).

Next year, QB will be: Maxwell (RR Sen) Cook (RS Soph) O'Connor (RS F) Terry (F)
2014, assuming everyone stats: Cook RS Jun O'Connor RS Soph Terry RS F 2014 recruit (F)

I went to OSU undergrad, MSU grad school. My wife is a MSU grad. It is a weird situation. And I love football in general. See a lot of Ohio HS football, Cleveland area.mostly. I really like it how Dantonio has taken recruiting OH so hard.

I haven't gotten to get my full subscription to tRCMB, I need to. I spend more time on. Bucknuts because there is more football talk year round, and more local prep footall talk (for my current location)

      Not trolling at all.

Read the post. MSU has better qbs on roster and is in on better kids. Kizer might play for State, but I don't think he plays QB. FWIW

PCL is not a troll. This thread is not on tDuff and falls under general recruiting discussion. His opinion is that Henderson is better than Kizer and he's entitled to that opinion.

You would have to assume the other 2 QB's are Henderson and the canadian o'connor kid playing in Tenn at the mo who is a '15 kid that may be reclassified as a '14......

the only thing I can think of is that Kizer is the "athlete" and Henderson and O'Connor are the QBs

I have also seen Kizer play a few times and I agree with what PCL says. Kizer is a great athlete that would need to his improve his passing greatly to be able to play QB at the next level. I will say though that he does have a strong arm and high ceiling. Maybe the coaches see him as somebody they can mold into a good QB since he probably wouldn't see the field early on.

State should not be taking prospects who need a "quantum leap" in passing at QB. We are not running an option offense, downfield passing is integral.

I like the player, not the position he is in. Watch his state champ game vs.a solid Trotwood Madison team. He is a fine athlete. I will leave it at that.
