Chicago (Ill.) Julian defensive end Demetrius Cooper gave his commitment to Michigan State on Saturday evening.
Cooper informed 247Sports that he’d be committing to the Spartans on Friday.
“It was the best spot for me,” Cooper said. He also held offers from the likes of Notre Dame, Iowa State and Purdue.
“It was like a family up there. I’ll be able to play early. With Will Gholston going to the league next year I’ll have a chance to play early. They’ve had a lot of success with players similar to me and I want to be the next one to go to the league.”
The 6-foot-6, 220-pound Cooper becomes the 12th commit for Michigan State in the class-of-2013 and the second defensive lineman, joining tackle Devyn Salmon. Cooper earned his offer at Spartans camp during the summer and Michigan State has been his leader for the past month.
Stay tuned to 247Sports/Spartan Tailgate for more on this developing story.
Spartan Tailgate’s Sean Scherer will be out to see Cooper and his Chicago Julian teammates for their season opener on Sunday.
