Harris Goes Down In 74-70 Win

Lost in the Harris panic is a truly excellent performance from Keith Appling. Played all 40 minutes and got better down the stretch. Continues to show poise and determination late in games and has really filled in as a late-game leader. I questioned who would take the big late-game shots on this team now that Draymond Green is gone but there was no doubt about it tonight and against Kansas.

Really balanced effort with 22 points, seven assists, five rebounds and three steals. Also hit a pair of big 3-pointers and made 4 of 6 from the free throw line. Mature performance from the junior tonight.

Also lost was the missed opportunity by Byrd - he go to play decent minutes (23) and overall didn't bring it. Defense was less than stellar, shot poorly from the field (1-5) and turned it over at a key point late in the game. Also missed the front end of a 1 and 1. I really want him to step in and provide a spark which he had every chance last night to do. Izzo didn't have many options and if Harris torn something in that shoulder, he could be out for a couple of months - Byrd will have to step it up.
