Bailey Next In Line?

Demetrius Cooper

Bailey's teammate, Demetirus Cooper (above), landed an offer from the Spartans Saturday

MSU offered Chicago (Ill.) Julian DE Demetrius Cooper over the weekend, while teammate Khairi Bailey is now waiting to hear from the Spartans following Saturday's camp session

      Not sure it's out there right now as I haven't been able to find a highlight tape. I'll get in touch with him tonight and see what the deal is there.

      I was really impressed with both Cooper and Bailey at the SMSB camp, definitely two of the best d-linemen there. Cooper is very quick and shifty and offensive linemen had a really hard time staying in front of him during one-on-one drills. Bailey tends to overpower kids and has a lot of strength, but adequate speed as well. Two really good prospects.

      Nice find, thanks for sharing.

      Looks good to me. Very fast and athletic. Looks like he needs to add some serious bulk to be a B1G DE (although, could be the compressed film).

      Dan, did he appear to have a frame that would allow him to put on significant weight? Listed at 6'5", 220. I'm guessing we'd eventually want him up around 260.

      No problem for Cooper to bulk up. He has the frame to get much bigger and stronger if Ken Mannie is working with him.
      Wait until you see Shilique Calhoun, Joel Heath, Brandon Clemons, Mark Scarpinato and Damon Knox this Fall.
      Calhoun = 255 +
      Heath = 275 +
      Clemons = 280 +
      Knox = 280 +
      Scarpinato = 275 +
      also Hoover = 315

      Thanks CBD. Figured that would be the case, but was just curious.

      That's a big group of of RS FR (minus Hoover...315?!?). It's good to know that weight is of the right variety. I especially like to see Calhoun in the 250 range. Can't wait to see those guys on the field.

      As I've said many times, Mannie gets my vote for unsung hero award. Been with the program for 17 years, does an incredible job with the youth camps and gets the most out of every guy in the weight room and in offseason workouts. Talked to one player earlier this week who said this year's winter conditioning program was the best he's seen during his time at MSU.

      Agree that Cooper will fill out just fine and would have no problem competing at the Big Ten level with his size.

    • Example :
      Shilique Calhoun arrived on campus last summer @ 230 lbs. After going thru the summer conditioning program he lost the baby fat and was down to 220 lbs.
      After the winter conditioning program going into Spring practice he was 240-245 lbs. He will be about 255 lbs this Fall and should retain his speed and quickness.
      Ken Mannie does a tremendous job developing these young men both physically and as young adults.
