MSU Gets Early Jump On 2015 PF

Trevor Manuel

Manuel has strong interest from most Big Ten schools, notably MSU and Indiana

Lansing (Mich.) Sexton's Trevor Manuel received one of his first offers from MSU this spring, and is honing his skills with a future Spartan on the AAU circuit this summer.

    • Lansing Sexton pipeline! Unusual for Izzo to offer a kid going into his sophmore year. Both Valentine's must speak very highly of him.

Carlton had some very positive things to say about Manuel and he definitely stands out on the court. Covered several games this season and he has very good instincts. Still pretty raw at that point but those things will come in time. Here's what I wrote about Manuel in a January Rumblings, as he definitely had the look of a Div. 1 prospect early on.

**Future Spartan Denzel Valentine was in attendance for that win over the Hawkeyes, as the Lansing Sexton guard is a regular sight at Breslin Center. He was joined on this night, however, by freshman teammate Trevor Manuel, a 6-foot-8 big man who has been contributing on varsity this season. He only had four points during Sexton’s win over Okemos Friday, but this is a name to remember in the class of 2015.

Izzo also offered that 7 footer out of the Dominican Republic...I believe he also was a 2015 guy.

Anyone with the mind-reading skills...what does this say about what Izzo thinks about the 2013 or 2014 classes?

Right, that would be Karl Towns. I wouldn't look too far into it other than Izzo is looking to secure a dominant big man in 2015. Towns is different in that he looks like a pure center in college while Manuel projects as a four. And should Izzo land Cliff Alexander for 2014, he might not expect him to stick around all that long.

    • Trice, Kearney and Dawson will be graduating is what I would say it means. If you want to tie it to the classes before I would say he's confident in where he stands with enough players in those classes. Directly related to the 2015 guys is that they are good.

Yeah it's not like it's outrageously early to offer these kids. Izzo has had several 2014 offers out for over a year now. Such is the current state of college basketball recruiting.

    • It would be nice to lock up a couple '14 & '15 guys early, any chance he pulls the trigger before his JR year?

Always a chance prospects commit early. We'll see what situation looks like in the fall depending on his offers list, but Manuel sounded pretty determined to stay patient with the process.

I think you have to take those timetables with a grain of salt, BUT it would probably benefit Manuel to hold off for some time if he wants to see his stock rise with scouts. People hate to admit it but he'll get more attention if he's uncommitted for a while than if he's wrapped up early.

Fair point and I almost never take a recruit's timetable as gospel, more like a general idea of how long said prospect would like to wait. Kids might think they have an idea early on but there are so many factors that could change things it's impossible to know for sure.

    • Not to hijack the thread but this doesn't give me much hope in landing the 7 footer. Also while looking for highlight tape I found a video of the DR team practicing at UK. So basically cal gets unlimited contact with this kid?

Thanks for that. I'm going to name my next album, "Always/Never."

I knew there had to be a reason why Calipari was coaching a foreign team in the Olympics. I think you found it.
