Morrissey is the 13th commit for Michigan State in the class-of-2014.
Sources confirm that Lincolnshire (IL) Stevenson defensive back/linebacker prospect Matt Morrissey has committed to Michigan State during a visit to campus on Monday. Morrissey's father, Jim Morrissey, also confirmed the commitment via text.
"Matt made a decision today," Jim Morrissey said. "He committed to Michigan State this afternoon."
The 6-foot-3, 180-pound Morrissey is a Spartans legacy. His father Jim played linebacker in East Lansing and his sister Anna is currently on the school's basketball team.
Morrissey chose Michigan State over his other finalists Boston College and Syracuse. The 13th commit for Mark Dantonio and his staff in the class-of-2014, Morrissey keeps the Spartans run in the Chicago area going, as he joins fellow Windy City recruits Brian Allen, Enoch Smith Jr. and Chase Gianacakos in the fold.
As a junior, Morrissey had 87 tackles and five pass breakups. He is ranked by 247Sports as the nation's No. 70 safety prospect and No. 23 player overall in the state of Illinois.
Morrissey was recruited by Michigan State assistant coach Brad Salem.
