Michigan State junior Derrick Nix has been suspended from the basketball team indefinitely, MSU coach Tom Izzo announced in a statement Tuesday afternoon.

Nix was arrested Monday night and is being charged with two counts, operating a vehicle within the presence of drugs and possession of marijuana according to the East Lansing 54-B District Court.
Izzo released the following statement regarding the incident:

“Based on the information we have received, Derrick Nix has been suspended indefinitely from our basketball team, and his future with our program is uncertain. He made an irresponsible decision that has put his future with our program in serious jeopardy.”

As a junior, Nix appeared in all 37 games and averaged 8.1 points in 18.9 minutes per game. The former Detroit Pershing standout and Michigan Mr. Basketball winner also averaged 3.8 rebounds and tallied 38 assists.
