Tyler O’Connor

Position: Quarterback

* School: Lima (Ohio) Central Catholic

Riley Bullough

Position: Outside Linebacker

* School: Traverse City (Mich.) St. Francis

* Height, Weight: 6-foot-2, 220 lbs.

* 247Sports Rating: 87

* H.S. Career: Bullough was the starting quarterback as sophomore and also played limited reps as safety on defense in leading his team to a state champion in Division 7 by going 14-0. As a junior, Bullough was the starting outside linebacker and quarterback but his team lost in first round of the playoffs. As senior, Bullough played middle linebacker and quarterback until breaking his collarbone in fifth game. Bullough also broke his wrist in December during basketball season.

* College Choices: Bullough chose Michigan State over Iowa. He also had offers from Wisconsin and Cincinnati.

* How He Fits In: Bullough is projected to play the 'Star' linebacker position. Due to Bullough’s two injuries - and Michigan State returning its entire linebacking corps – he will most likely redshirt this season.

Mark Meyers

Position: Defensive Back

* School: [/b Toledo (Ohio) Whitmer

[b]* Height, Weight: 6-foot-1, 190 lbs.

* 247Sports Rating: 77; nation’s No. 130 safety prospect; Ohio’s No. 95 prospect.

Meyers intercepted four passes his sophomore season and five his junior year. He made 115 tackles with five interceptions during his senior season. Meyers has a 2.4 GPA and is working on his ACT score.

* College Choices: Meyers committed to Toledo on Dec. 7. However, he made an official visit to Michigan State the weekend of Jan. 20, the Spartans offered him a scholarship, and he switched his commitment to Michigan State.

* How He Fits In: The Spartan coaches have told Meyers he could play either safety or cornerback once he gets to Michigan State. Meyer doesn’t have a preference; he just wants to get on the field as soon as possible.

Evan Jones

Position: Tight End

* School: West Lafayette (Ohio) Ridgewood

* Height, Weight: 6-foot-6, 240 lbs.

* 247Sports Rating: 87; nation’s No. 19 tight end prospect; Ohio’s No. 34 prospect.

* H.S. Career: Jones played tight end and defensive end and led Ridgewood to an 8-3 record during his senior season. He caught 15 passes for over 200 yards and three touchdowns. Jones was a three-year varsity starter on both offense and defense. He has a 3.3 GPA and scored a 21 on the ACT.

* College Choices: Jones committed to Michigan State in early May over scholarship offers from West Virginia, Akron, Toledo and Bowling Green.

* How He Fits In: While there has been some speculation that Jones could wind up on the Spartans’ defensive line, he says Mike Tressel has told him he will be a tight end. His goal is to get into the 2-deep in his first year in East Lansing.

* Height, Weight: 5-foot-9, 182 lbs.

* 247Sports Rating: 84

* College Choices: Tompkins chose Michigan State over finalists Georgia Tech and Wisconsin. He also had offers from Arkansas, Army, Boston College, Cal, Cincinnati, Duke, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana Tech, Maryland, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Wake Forest.

* How He Fits In: Tompkins is a true speed back and could add a new wrinkle to the position group. With Edwin Baker declared for the NFL Draft, Larry Caper, Le’Veon Bell, Nick Hill and Jeremy Langford are the running backs on the roster. Tompkins’s speed might give him the edge to play as a true freshman. Out of all the running backs, Tompkins has tested to be the fastest of the bunch. Tompkins been clocked a 4.44-seconds in the 40-yard dash.

Jermaine Edmondson

Position: Defensive Back

* School: Canton (Ohio) McKinley

* College Choices: Edmondson committed to Michigan State during the summer over offers from Nebraska, Illinois, Purdue and a number of MAC schools.

* How He Fits In: Edmondson has been told by the MSU staff that with graduation and some position changes there is going to be a great need at cornerback this coming season. Edmondson hopes to be in strong contention for playing time as a true freshman.

Jamal Lyles

Position: Outside Linebacker

* School: Southfield (Mich.) Lathrup

* Height, Weight: 6-foot-4, 215 lbs.

* 247Sports Rating: 87; nation's No. 56 outside linebacker prospect; Michigan’s No. 13 prospect.

* H.S. Career: Lyles was a lone bright spot for 2-7 Lathrup this season, as he backed up an excellent summer on the camp circuit. Lyles recorded 135 tackles including 19 for loss at linebacker, and was named honorable mention all-State by the Detroit News. Lyles also tallied four forced fumbles, four interceptions, one interception and one blocked field goal.

* College Choices: Lyles chose MSU over Iowa and Illinois. He also had offers from Akron, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Stanford, Syracuse, Toledo, Vanderbilt and Western Michigan.

* How He Fits In: Lyles joins a crowded linebacker group at MSU, and may eventually switch to defensive end depending on how he fills out. Lyles will most likely redshirt due to the Spartans’ depth at linebacker, giving MSU’s staff plenty of time to figure out how to use the talented in-state prospect.

Aaron Burbridge

Position: Wide Receiver

* School: Farmington (Mich.) Harrison

* Height, Weight: 6-foot-2, 180 lbs.

* 247Sports Rating: 95; nation's No. 9 wide receiver prospect; Michigan’s No. 1 prospect; nation's No. 85 prospect overall.

* H.S. Career: Coming off a monster junior season, the state’s top prospect often faced double-coverage and still finished with 28 catches for 633 yards and an average of 22.6 yards per catch. Burbridge helped the Hawks begin the season 10-0 with an opening-round playoff win before a disappointing 30-7 loss to Brother Rice in the MHSAA Division II district final. Burbridge finished the season with five touchdown receptions and was named top player in state by the Lansing State Journal.

* College Choices: Burbridge picked MSU over a host of top programs including Cincinnati, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Notre Dame and Ohio State.

* How He Fits In: Burbridge is a strong, physical receiver with excellent speed and route running skills. He’s a relentless run-blocker but also has more than enough talent to stretch the field on opposing defenses. With so much turnover at receiver, Burbridge remains one of the top candidates in 2012 to earn playing time as a true freshman.

Zach Higgins

Position: Offensive Lineman

* School: Alliance (Ohio) Marlington

* Height, Weight: 6-foot-5, 310 lbs.

* 247Sports Rating: 88; nation’s No. 48 offensive tackle prospect; Ohio’s No. 26 prospect.

* H.S. Career: Zach Higgins was a three-year starter who played offensive right tackle the first two years and right guard during his senior season. He injured his knee during the last game of the season, tearing his ACL, MCL and meniscus, and fracturing the tip of his femur. He had major surgery and will “redshirt” his first year at Michigan State. Higgins has a 3.85 GPA and scored a 22 on the ACT.

* College Choices: Higgins committed to Michigan State at the Spartans spring game on April 30 over offers from Northwestern, West Virginia, South Florida and some others.

* How He Fits In: Though Higgins will “redshirt” his first season at Michigan State, he is hoping to be cleared to participate at the beginning of fall practice. He has been told he will play either guard or center for the Spartans.

Demetrious Cox

Position: Defensive Back

* School: Jeannette (Pa.) Jeannette

* Height, Weight: 6-foot-1, 187 lbs.

* 247Sports Rating: 90; nation’s No. 18 safety prospect; Pennsylvania’s No. 11 prospect.

Cox made 63 tackles and intercepted three passes. On the other side of the ball, Cox had 1,250 yards rushing with 23 touchdowns and 850 yards passing with nine touchdowns.

* College Choices: Cox had dozens of scholarship offers before narrowing his list down to Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State and Wisconsin. He made official visits to all four before announcing on Jan. 30 he had committed to the Spartans.

* How He Fits In: Cox is an outstanding talent who seems likely to see playing time for the Spartans as a true freshman. He could be a “nickel” back, play on special teams, and perhaps work his way into the lineup at safety by late in the season.

Ezra Robinson

Position: Cornerback

School: Sarasota (Fla.) Booker

* Height, Weight: 6-foot-1 188 lbs.

* 247Sports Rating: 80

* H.S. Career: Robinson started five varsity games as a freshman games. Then as a sophomore, Robinson started 11 games playing both corner and safety. Robinson was honorable mention Division 4A as a cornerback as sophomore. As a junior, Robinson played a mix of safety, outside linebacker and cornerback. Robinson made second team all-state as a safety in Division 4A. Then as a senior, Robinson played 90-percent cornerback and 10-percent safety and made first team all-state as cornerback in Division 4A.

* College Choices: Robinson ultimately chose Michigan State over Georgia Tech. He also had offers from Illinois, West Virginia, Clemson, Duke, Iowa State, North Carolina, Purdue and South Florida.

* How He Fits In: Robinson will most likely be redshirted next season with senior Johnny Adams and junior Darqueeze Dennard locking down the starting spots. Also, Michigan State added depth at cornerback with redshirt freshman Arjen Colquhoun and Trae Waynes. Michigan State has the option to move sophomore Tony Lippett or Jeremy Langford back to cornerback.

Josiah Price

Position: Tight End

* School: Greentown (Ind.) Eastern

* Height, Weight: 6-foot-5, 240 lbs.

* 247Sports Rating: 87; nation's No. 16 tight end prospect; Indiana’s No. 7 prospect.

* H.S. Career: A four-year starter at both tight end and defensive end, Price was named first-team all-State his junior and senior seasons. Price amassed nearly 2,000 career receiving yards in Eastern’s spread offense, and also played some at quarterback his senior year leading the Comets to a 7-4 season.

* College Choices: Price chose the Spartans over additional offers from Arkansas State, Ball State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Miami (Ohio), Minnesota, Northern Illinois, Purdue, Toledo and Western Michigan.

* How He Fits In: Tight end is a big position of need in upcoming years, and the Spartans have been fortunate with former MSU standouts Charlie Gantt and Brian Linthicum. Price didn’t display much blocking ability out of the spread offense, but his ferocity on defense proved he has the physical skills. Price is one of the more intriguing prospects to keep an eye on this spring.

Kodi Kieler

Position: Offensive tackle

School: Rockwood (Mich.) Oscar Carlson

* Height, Weight: 6-foot-6, 307 lbs.

* 247Sports Rating: 88

* College Choices: Kieler ultimately chose Michigan State over Minnesota. He also had offers from Purdue and host of MAC schools.

* How He Fits In: Kieler will be redshirted as a freshmen and could compete for a starting job at right tackle in 2013. Skyler Burkland will be a redshirt junior by that point and will most likely have the right tackle spot locked down. Kieler will add depth at the right tackle position.

MacGarrett Kings

Position: Wide Receiver

* School: Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) University

* Height, Weight: 6-foot, 186 lbs.

* 247Sports Rating: 85; nation's No. 97 wide receiver prospect; Florida’s No. 90 prospect

* H.S. Career: Kings scored a remarkable 30 touchdowns his senior season and was named Player of the Year in Broward County by the Sun-Sentinel. Kings also helped University finish 12-1 en route to the FHSAA 3A Regional Final. Most impressive was Kings’ six-touchdown performance in a win over Red Lion Christian Academy when he had two rushing scores, three receiving and one 98-yard kickoff return touchdown.
* College Choices: Kings chose the Green and White over Florida State. He held additional offers from Auburn, Boston College, Cincinnati, Georgia, Louisville, Purdue, South Florida, Central Florida, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

* How He Fits In: Another possible candidate for early playing time, Kings has explosive speed and could fill Keshawn Martin’s former role as a playmaker in the slot. Kings will also likely get a look as a return man, and represents an extremely talented athlete who can make things happen in space.

David Fennell

Position: Defensive Tackle

* School: Portland (Ore.) Sunset

* Height, Weight: 6-foot-3, 275 lbs.

* 247Sports Rating: 78

* H.S. Career: Fennell was originally from a small town in Canada before moving to Portland in June prior to his senior season to get more exposure. Out of a base 3-5-3 defense Fennell played all three spots on the defensive line. He was the 6A All-Metro League 2011 Defensive Player of the Year and a 6A 2011 First Team All-State choice.

* College Choices: Besides Michigan State, he received interest from Akron, Central Michigan, Colorado State, Iowa, Louisville, Nevada, Oregon and Oregon State.

* How He Fits In: Fennell is projected to play three three technique at the defensive tackle position. With Jerel Worthy off to the NFL, look for Fennell to make a push to earn some reps as true freshman. Fennell will be battling for reps with senior Dough Curtis, sophomore James Kittredge, redshirt freshmen Matt Ramondo and Mark Scarpinato. Fennell adds instant depth at the position. Fennell was told by Michigan State coaches he would play a similar position on the defensive line as Ndamukong Suh does for the Detroit Lions.

Marcus Horne

Position: Running Back

School: Milwaukee (Wisc.) Bradley Technology

* Height, Weight: 5-foot-10, 190 lbs.

* 247Sports Rating: 75

* H.S. Career: As a senior, Horne was named First Team All-Area and Honorable Mention All-State after rushing for 1,800 yards and 23 touchdowns.

Horne camped at Michigan State this past summer and chose to greyshirt and pay his own way his first semester. With Larry Caper graduating, Le'Veon Bell, Nick Hill, Jeremy Langford and Nick Tompkins would then be the running backs left on the roster should they all return.
