    According to one of the graphics CBS put up this weekend, it's only 5 F4s. Apparently we lost in the E8 in 99, and we all managed to black it out. loco

    Yes, exactly. CBS has apparently fucked up its record books and doesn't know what happened in 99.

    They put up a graphic (I think it must have been during the game Friday night) of "Michigan State's history as a #1 Seed": 1990 Sweet Sixteen, 1999 Elite Eight, 2000 National Title, 2001 Final Four.

    I was apoplectic and started yelling at the TV.

    You probably aren't. A lot of people get their hopes up.

    Considering expectations at the beginning of the season and the loss of 4 starters? This has already been an EXCELLENT season.

    98-02 = 6-4 Tourney Record 03-07 = 8-5 tourney record 08-12 = 13-4 (and counting) tourney record.

    Really shows that 03-07 was a down five years, and most programs would kill for it.

    I think you have to live through a selection sunday where they might not be called again this year... before you can fully appreciate the success.

    I don't think Spartans under the age of... say... 30, would remember the lean years... this is expected.

    Completely agree. I'm still in school and like somebody else said I don't even count sweet 16s. In fact, as selfish as it may sound it still doesn't seem that great, and that's a testament to Izzo.

  • While I agree that IN THE CURRENT ERA, Izzo is tremendous, compare it to Dean Smith. Izzo is being lauded for having teams In The Tourney 15 years in a row. At one stretch, Dean Smith had UNC in the Sweet 16 20 years in a row. Not in the tourney, not just win one game. 20 straight years into the Sweet 16.

    It will never be done again, but this thread seems to be saying Izzo has done something never before accomplished. Don't get me wrong, I'm giddy with what MSU has done, thrilled with this year's team, with the last 15 years, and with where the program is going. But re: S-16's? It's been done before, and for now, done better.

    Wow, I never realized that there were 64 teams in the tournament all those years Smith made it. That is crazy. Yeah Izzo will never touch that. Smith won at least two games in the tourney 20 years in a row? That is insane. Still glad we have Izzo. Not bad being second or third to guys like smith.

    I'd say there are 4 schools in that group. MSU, Duke, North Carolina, and Kentucky. 4a would be Kansas...

    Not to nit pick but doing a google search the tournament has had 64 teams only since 85. So smith would have had to do it from 85-05 to really call it the same type of thing as it is now. Further search I read he did it 13 times in a row, but don't know the years so don't know if he had to win two each year. Don't think I'm comparing Izzo to him cause even Izzo would get pissed at that. Mad respect for smith. Just thought I'd like the accurate facts. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Searching on my phone. Point still remains we have the absolute best at our school. We are lucky as hell. Man it's great being a Spartan
