2 Sport Star Drake Harris to announce Wednesday

Congrats. Definitely sounds like it is MSU.

Based on what? He was just at UM last week. Not saying that means anything, but he clearly is open minded.

1- He was at MSU this weekend for hoops.

2- UM was a bit optimistic when it seemed like he might focus on one sport (football), but now he is talking about playing both sports..again after just visiting MSU.

3- No one on UM sites are optimistic.

Oh...thanks for the info. I didn't realize he was at MSU this weekend...that does seem like a good indicator.

Here is a Sam Web tweet:

OPINION on the school @dharrisbball4 will pick, NOT a report on which he'll pick, I think he'll choose MSU. Find out for sure on Wednesday

    He's all MSU. Again, congrats.

Great sign for us. Webb has a solid track record on picking recruits, plus he just talked to his dad

  • Looks good. Great way to start next year's class.

  • Kid goes to school a mile from my house. He's a State fan, has always been a State fan. He prefers B Ball to Football, but he's a phenomenal athlete and in my opinion, unless he grows out of the role, is unstoppable as a WR.

His dad is a Michigan fan though, so who knows. Why is he announcing so early in his career, he's not even a junior in high school?

    Johnny2x2x

  • Does it matter whether he uses a football or bball scholly? Facility restrictions or anything? It would be nice it didn't matter. If Izzo gets his epic class Alexander, Jones, Okafor he could just use a fball scholly, bball scholly if not?

Its normal time to commit for a hoops prospect. I know he is saying he will play 2 sports, but IMO he's all hoops. I believe he almost committed to Izzo last year.

If he plays FB, he will count against those numbers regardless

Has to use a football scholarship if he plays football. I believe the rule is you use a scholarship from the sport that occurs earlier in the year.

I don't know if it calendar year or academic year (ie. baseball and football), but if you play football and basketball, it will always count as a football scholarship.

That could be it, now...the rule was started because bear bryant would park players on basketball, baseball, etc...scholarships so he could have 100 football players

I think he has higher upside at football, but I think he'll commit to us primarily for basketball. I read his quotes after camping at UM last week, and itsounded like he enjoyed things, but wasn't interested in them.

Josh Hemholdt says it will be a two sport commitment.

    Oh and f off, Nucky.

Do you know if he has met Belein yet? If not, that'd be even more encouraging.

His dad can be a Spartan fan for a few years. As a father, I can't imagine having more trust in any coach to watch over my kid and see that he gets where he wants to go than Dantonio and Izzo.

Seriously! I know we're all biased, but is there a better combo of coaches in the country to play for if you're a 2 sport athlete?

I thought he was a 4/5 star? biggrin

  • Well, it's certainly an exciting commitment if it's true that he's coming to State. He's one of the most heralded athletes to come out of the Grand Rapids area in a very long time. Comes from a good family too and Christian is a great high school.

Yeppers. That's why State just can't have Riley Norman on a track schollie and a "walk-on" football player.

If you think oversigning is bad now, imagine if the SEC could bank 8-10 more kids as track/baseball/bball athletes lol.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

My bad...I meant "2 sport athelete"

Yes, he's a very highly rated recruit in both sports.

  • This kid has a chance to be a legendary athlete at MSU. spartan2

  • GR Christian faculty has been full of U of M fans for years. It doesn't come as surprise that his father might be a umaa fan especially since rr has been replaced by Hoke and his 2 loss season in his first year made it easy to bring doubters back into the fold.

MSU's ace in the hole is recent examples of players who were given the opportunity to play both football and basketball. Although Dion Sims opted to just play football he was truly given a choice. The other positive is Izzo will not dictate that Harris quit football. Izzo has a long history of recruiting basketball players who also have played varsity football as HS seniors.

It would be very nice to see two MSU basketball players with the surname Harris by tomorrow evening.

Him and McDowell will be 1 and 2 in the state for 2014. McDowell probably #1.
