  • Thomas is not playing LB at 280. Sorry guys.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH HIM Injury wise, Shoulder again? Victim of Craig James and his hooker killing?

Norman is probably just being held out as a preventitive and to give the crazy deep LB position a chance to settle itself out.

If you are 6'5" or taller, 10-15 lbs, is NOTHING, trust me. It's taking a shit or working out for 2 weeks.

I thought LT was around 260ish last year and was working hard in the weight room. You're looking at a future DE right there (Clayborn from Iowa was an AA at 6'3 285).

Yeah - I'm a little concerned about LT's ability to keep his weight down. I'm curious to see if he's still got the coverage abilities he showed during HS. Does anybody remember what his injury was?

  • Thomas is gonna have to move to the line. 280 is just gonna be too much weight for him to carry at LB

Personally I'd rather have him at DE, more speed on the field, and you can do some nasty things with zone blitzes and dropping him with those coverage skills.

I honestly thought he was a safety prospect the first time I saw him in those 7 on 7 drills, I think it was the video at Michigan's camp.

    Shoulder

Better than knee, but not a whole lot better.

Shoulder injury shouldn't make it hard to keep weight off though as you can still do a lot of different things to stay fit.

  • T Lip listed at WR. Surely due to the lack of experience? I thought the coaches liked him at CB?

I'd like to say it is something though when it's

    1) the first measurement we are getting on a guy from the staff officially to compare to their 'alleged' size

    2) for a very young guy, it is something if they put on good weight as their metabolisms are so high when they are 18 ish.

    3) opposite end, Johnny Adams putting on 5 lbs of good weight is pretty close to a young lineman putting on 20 lbs of good weight. Hopefully Johnny can get up near 180 by the start of the year.

    Yep, all around.

He's got very good size for WR, but elite size for CB

That was when he was listed ast 232. I'd be shocked if nearly 50 pounds later he can still move like that.

If you look at WR this spring, with Folwer out, the only WR's who could participate are Caesar, Sims Jr., Arnett and Kerrick. That's not enough, so they moved Lippett and Dixon over; Caesar just got cleared to run last week. Dixon looks to be behind Jones and Drummond at S, and maybe even behind Williamson.

Caesar's a huge target; I hope he stays healthy.

  • We got us some big WRs - Four guys 6'3" or bigger

    Kerrick 6'3"
    Caesar 6'4"
    Lippett 6'3"
    Troup 6'3"

Troup will not play during the season unless it's garbage time or there are a lot of injuries at WR.

Rock, do you think there's potential for T Lip to play both ways this year? If the injury situation at WR doesn't get shaken out (or if Arnett doesn't get cleared)?

I thought the reviews on Troup were very positive early on? Obviously he's a limited guy but he could still be a contributor.

  • A few years ago I would have said no one can play LB at 280, but there are several guys in the NFL playing LB at 280+ now. Lawrence Thomas is a freak athlete and if he can still run at 280 he will stick at LB.

Upshaw played at 272 for his senior year, IIRC.

3-4 OLB is a bit different though.

  • Some interesting things on twitter about Bell as #1 RB....

    Joe Rexrode ‏ @joerexrode
That was interesting. RT @Sloc12 asked about Bell clear #1 RB dantonio:"important that we aren't complacent. I'll leave it at that" ... hmmm

    Joe Rexrode ‏ @joerexrode
Dantonio on who will get the carries at RB: "Your guess is as good as mine. ... I really don't care who plays."

    On Calhoun

    Joe Rexrode ‏ @joerexrode
Dantonio on Calhoun: Said he could have helped midway through last year. "He's got Julian Peterson type ability." There's a quote for you.
