2012 realignment (ND to Big 12 for Olympic sports? )

  • 3rd year in a row, mainly around ACC schools Clemson and FSU. Clemson is reporting ready to volt, FSU report waiting to see what sort of TV deal ACC gets post expansion. Hopefully we get answers soon.

P.S. ALL realignment news goes here.

  • What color Volt is Clemson looking at getting? To get that Orange, I bet they have to special order one, which will probably cost a lot of money. Seems to me that would offset the savings of gas though. Hmmmm, tough call. Do you have any pics of it?

I'm trying to decide what kind of beer to overindulge in this weekend to drown my sorrows about the game. Any suggestions?

It's springtime, so I'd go with with a wheat beer.

  • I live about 10 miles from Clemson so I keep up with them. When did they report they were ready to volt? Malibu? Fusion?

  • If those 2 bolt from the ACC, then other schools will look into doing the same. In particular, U. VA, Va. Tech and Maryland.

  • Unless you have credible links, please don't post anything as official.

You do realize that's why no one takes your discussion seriously. You seem to lack the ability to determine relevance, authority, objectivity and scope of whatever information you come across.

yeah, because they'll realize the conference is nothing without Clemson and Florida State, especially academically, and they all can't wait to leave behind nobodies like Duke, UNC, NC State, Georgia Tech, etc. since those two schools can't possibly replaced by Syracuse and Pitt. uhoh

How much of a vag am I for kind of liking that Leiny's Summer Shandy?

I don't know about vag, but that beer is pretty gross IMO.

I mean, I'd drink it in a pinch, but it has a strange artificial lemon flavor added to it that I can't get past. If I had to pick a Leinenkugal product to drink, I'd probably go with Sunset Wheat.

  • One of the things that is very interesting about the new Big 12 contract is that payout per school increases by expansion, and schools hold 3rd tier rights. With rights for tier 1 and 2 being around 20 million, and schools like Kansas making 10 million extra in 3rd tier rights, schools will look at the Big 12 now since Dan Beebe is not in charge. The ACCs tv deal for all 3 rights would be only 15 million after expansion.

The Big 12 has applications from BYU and Louisville, but will hold off as they evaluate if they want to expand 12, 14 or 16.

TV Money. Apparently the ACC Commish is a bigger idiot then Dan Beebe, if all reports are true.

Apparently the ACC took a smaller deal from ESPN over Fox in order to keep Raycom in the loop. Hence why every school minus the Carolina schools are looking to leave.

Alot of this has been over the last few months from various TV and radio reports, blogs, articles, etc. This is info that is not new, I just have chose to sit on it per say and wait til OT season before going full blast with it.

With that said, some feel that the Big Ten will expand to 16, if the right schools are available. Maryland, Ga. Tech, Virginia, Va. Tech and believe it or not Pitt and Cuse are all still in contact with the Big Ten, keeping options open if Clemson, FSU and Miami head west and...wait for it...UNC and NC State head south. The ACC really blew the pooch with their TV deal and there is no way they will ever catch up in the next 13 years with TV money compared to the other 4 conferences.

With all of that said, everyone is waiting to the Big 12 TV contract to be finalized and who the Conference Commish will be (rumors have the Big 12 looking to hire from the Big East or ACC their next commish). With Texas agreeing to what is basically 'death' exit fees (50 million dollar exit fees PLUS the conference will keep the rights to the schools Tier 1 and Tier 2 games 6 years after departure), there is stability in the big 12. It also shows that Dan Beebe was a idiot. Figures have each school making approx. 25 million in TV money ($20 guaranteed with tier 1 and 2 rights) , and if true, each school gets a guaranteed $2 million increase per school depending on which school joins. BYU and Louisville will join the Big 12 as the last 2 teams in. Clemson will most likely come, and Miami and FSU will be a package deal.

There's a major flaw in your scenario. Where does Duke go? They're pretty much tied to the 2 North Carolina schools (especially UNC). I also don't see UNC or Duke ever joining the SEC for academic reasons. Conclusion, you're making stuff again.

All 3 (plus Wake, to an extent) would only go SEC if they were close to losing football. It will absolutely never happen, like you say.

Also, UNC/Duke/NCState will go to the absolutely every length trying to keep the ACC alive. They are the collective Texas of that conference.
