2013 Football Season Ticket Info

Awful home schedule, especially compared to last year. Real curious to see the % drop in renewals.

Do you know the only thing worse than the 2013 Spartan home schedule???

    The 2014 Spartan home schedule:
    8/30 - Jacksonville State
    9/20 - Wyoming
    9/27 - Eastern Michigan
    10/4 - Illinois
    11/1 - Northwestern
    11/15 - Nebraska
    11/22 - Iowa

but then again - I'm going to renew for 2013, so that I get renew for 2014

(PS it is worth keeping your tickets to see Oregon & Alabama come into Spartan Stadium in '15 & '17....weirdly those are both years that UM is also a home game)

You'll probably get hammered on here for saying the schedule is the reason, but I agree with you 100%. We are not driving 500 miles to see them either 1) beat the hell out of these crap teams, or 2) poop their pants and lose to these crap teams. We are coming up for one game this year, the UM game. Call me a poor fan or whatever, but none of the other games are worth the time/expense. My feeling is that I'll be able to pick up a pair for $200-300 for that game. That means my donation to the University would be $400-500 if we go with the season ticket package - just don't know if I can convince the other half that that is the right thing to do.

So, it was "worth" your time and expense last year when we had a good home schedule? Even though having a better home schedule might mean more losses at home? What were we...2-5 last year at home? So, you base your buying decisions on a better home schedule (with the possibility that we will lose more games), as opposed to a schedule in which we might win more games at home? Is your mentality that you don't want to waste your money because we might lose to crap teams? But, it's not wasted when we lose to good teams?

Sorry. I don't follow this logic. Seems like going 6-1 or 7-0 at home would be more enjoyable (and worth it) than going 2-5 (regardless of the opponent).

The bottom line is you are a fan of your team. Valuing your time and expense (for purchasing season tickets) based on the opponent is silly. We need our fans to step up and support the program...not make excuses.

That blows - only one game in October and three in November. I usually hope for two in each month or 3 in October and 1 in November.

Plus, depending on how well the team does, those "hard to get" UofM tickets may not be so hard to get come November 2. Just remember the Nebraska game last year.

How long have you been an MSU fan? The UM ticket is a tough one no matter how bad the team is or how bad the weather. The demand will be even higher this year as its the only decent game on the home schedule.

  • While I understand why people would choose not to renew and buy on the secondary market, I consider my season tickets to be part of my annual donation to the program and I think the best programs have the biggest season ticket bases and revenue. Of course I could go to every game for less than face value, but I'm not interested in shorting the program.

Is a game on November 1st that different than a game being in October?

  • While I agree with everyone that this is a shitty schedule I enjoy watching football, I love the spartans and you really only get so many football Saturdays in a lifetime. Yes its crappy opponents but its the experience, Ill be renewing as long as I can financially afford it.

If we were closer, I'd be in the same boat. That said, I think a lot of people, near and far, think differently.

I'm in DC though. An AVERAGE football weekend for me last season was about $1000.00, once I factored in Hotel, Flights, Tickets, and all the other money that gets spent. That's not even counting the zilly donate, beer and food money. I see it as a worthwhile investment not only in my personal entertainment, but in the Football Program and the University.

Maybe I just don't bitch like some of the other guys on here about a weak schedule, when I was gifted with an amazing schedule last season. Guess what, when the schedule ramps up again in 2014-2017, and people are scrambling for tickets, I won't have to worry.

Yes it's completely different sarcasm I know it's pretty much the same thing as October, but I just don't like seeing 3 November games vs. 1 October. October is the best month to have a football game.

I buy tickets to watch the home team.

    .

    Exactly.

And yet the same people who hit the internet to boldly give every excuse possible why they will not set foot on campus to support the team by publicly denouncing Hollis, the program, ticket prices, and conditions of everthing associated with Spartan Stadium, are the some ones demanding the athletic department give them a first rate program with first class facilities.

    Absolutely brilliant.

Once they refund me for this year ill buy my tickets. Also, ridiculous seeing all the boners bail out because of the schedule and because they think we will suck. Show up to the fucking games and support the team. But it you don't show up it's more opportunity for me to get closer to the field. Fucking boners.

I'm confused here. On one hand you complain about people bailing and not supporting the program. Then on the other hand you say you won't renew unless you get refunded for this year for whatever reason that you think you should get a refund for.

    atlspartan73

  • I have been a season ticket holder and have been to every home game since 1985. I need to have a serious talk with the wife about not renewing, I really do not know if it is worth the money any longer. We have six tickets in section 23, so the cost is quite high.

I have always said that I buy season tickets primarily to support the program, not because they make financial sense. That said, I think over the last 25+ years I have done my part.

You know what, I'm going to do something you don't see around here to often....I'm going to say you are absolutely right. You made me see the light - my arguments don't make any sense. I want to see a top program year in and year out, and the only way to do that is to help the AD financially and I realize I should buy the season tickets regardless of schedule. I apologize for my momentary lack of being a good fan!

That said, still may be hard to do this year b/c I have to pay for the stupid yard for the house we're building - or should I just leave it dirt, and tell the neighbors I wanted to create an Arizona-type atmosphere?

Devils advocate: It's obvious MSU scheduled Western Michigan, USF, and Youngstown State to pad things - they'll be 3-0 going to Notre Dame.

But it is tough to get jazzed up over those games

But I give you respect for your thoughts. I applaud and appreciate all ticket holders.

And, by my estimation, I'll have about $500 extra to spend to get a UofM ticket.

    Current seats in upper deck = $308(x2) + $100 donation = $716

Total I'll spend on the secondary market for all tickets except for the Michigan game = $240 (figure an average of $20/ticket)

That leaves $476 for the UofM game.

I think I'll be just fine. And I probably wasn't going to the Labor Day game anyway as it's back to a Saturday this year so I would have had to eat that one.

People keep saying this, but when has a season ticket ever been difficult to get for Michigan State? Last year they suspended sales for what, the first time ever? And even with that you got tickets as long as you didn't wait until July to buy them.

And if one is really concerned about an inability to get season tickets in the future, you need only donate about $100 to the Spartan Fund every year to maintain your point level.

Always amazing for a 3rd rate fan base to demand a first rate Program.

Fans need to put up or shut-up as well

Sadly, our fan base has exceeded the product on the field for about four decades. MSU is lucky to not have Minnesota-level attendance.

Definately. But if you aren't willing to get season tickets with the way the program is currently, you weren't part of the reason the fan base exceeded the onfield product over the last 25 years.

  • I like games that I can buy a ticket for $10 or less as it will allow me to leave at halftime to go out to the car for another beer and smoke. Seems like there will be a lot of halftime trips next year.

When we clinched the B1G crown at PSU in 2010 it was half full and that was before all the Paterno-Sandusky information made people hesitant to go to games. Next year will be our first home Thanksgiving weekend game so it'll be interesting to see how our fan base reacts.

Look at Ohio State's home schedule for 2013; not much better, and I bet they are not hearing a bunch of babies crying about not renewing. Buffalo, San Diego St, Florida A&M, Wisconsin, Iowa, Penn St, and Indiana.

At least they have two premium home games, we only have one.
