2013 NFL Combine Thread

The only thing I would question in there was that they listed vision as a weakness. I always though vision was one of his strengths.

I've always thought of it as a weakness. I thought they were bang on when they talked about him running into the back of his OL. He trusts his strength to get him through; he needs to look for where they will be coming from (different in the NFL than at MSU), and to improve his pass-catching/blocking skills.

He'll be fine, though. I actually think Atlanta would be a good spot for him to land, although San Diego ("Hey, Edwin! Nice seeing you again!" lol) would be another good spot for him, IMHO.

I think it was a weakness

They were a lot of times where he tried to bounce it outside when he's better running between the tackles

The scouts in the NFL can be wrong (Tom Brady in the 6th round, etc...) but not here. SIH is right...he missed some huge holes this year and also missed some BIG blitz pickups but did so many other good things that they simply weren't pointed out. I think another reason he didn't see holes sometimes is because he didn't have that many the three years he was running the ball. Still, I can see his vision as being rated below avg.

.....hard to criticize the kid though....382 carries last season to lead FBS. 3....8....2: and over HALF of his total yards, 922 to be exact were gained after contact....unreal:

2012 SEASON (JUNIOR): Won the Big Ten overall rushing title averaging 137.9 yards per game, which also ranked third in the NCAA FBS . . . became the first Spartan to win the Big Ten overall rushing title since Tico Duckett in 1990 . . . totaled 1,793 rushing yards, the second-highest single-season mark in MSU history and the fifth most in the nation in 2012 . . . ranked first in the FBS in carries (382), which also ranks third most in a MSU season and fourth in the Big Ten record book . . . according to STATS, Bell gained 922 of his 1,793 rushing yards (51 percent) after contact, which ranked first among all NCAA FBS running backs, and broke 16 tackles . . .

.........that is HILARIOUS that they said toward the end he 'broke 16 tackles'. Pretty sure he broke that many vs BSU in the first game. Also, he did ALL that behind a pretty crappy oline.

  • Gholston with 23 reps on the bench press.

Not great but he does have longish arms.

Damontre Moore from Texas A&M (projected top 10 pick) with only 12....

He actually missed a ton of big cutback lanes and holes this year, did a lot of stopping at the line of scrimmage and then simply picking his way through the pile rather than finding the hole.

I mean, the 40 time has nothing to do with someone's football ability. its really not meant to be.

IMO they are vastly overrated. Anquan Bolden ran a 4.75: how'd he look in the Super Bowl this year? Martin(RB) of Tampa wasn't fast last year, nor was Morris (RB) of the skins...they were both slower and lit it UP in last year as rookies. Emmitt Smith ran in the 4.7's as I recall at the combine and Walter Payton was NEVER very fast. They were pretty good too.

...if you look at that list, there are aLOT of fast times by guys that are either out of the league or ride the pine

not that I know of....Larry should get his degree and move on IMO. Concussions are nothing to mess with.

  • Thanks guys. Will be interested in his Pro Day results. Glad to see all the Spartans at the combine doing so well so far.

You've got to be kidding me? That kid must not want to get drafted at all. He's faster than that.

  • Other than there being more Spartans than in other years, this has to be one of the most boring draft classes I've seen.

Meh, according to his weight that's about the time he should run. Not real surprising. I know we all he expected him to do freak numbers though because he looks like such a monster.

Yeah I know. The huge kid from North Carolina ran an unofficial 4.93 and they acted like he was a late first rounder. That'll get adjusted to over 5. The guys running the 4.53 and 4.65 40's are the 6'3" 250 lb DE's that are basically Wide LB's. They're the new WTE. Will is probably a 5 technique playing at about 295lbs in the pros. For what it's worth, those guys that size running 5's look so rediculously fast at that size it's scary.

It's almost a shame we're going to have to pay someone top 10 money this year. I wouldn't mind trading down to save some cap space. There isn't a single top 10 DL pick and that's a first over the last 5-7 years. The QB's are garbage. Hoepfully someone will shit the bed and get excited and leap frog someone for Geno.

The guys I wouldn't mind seeing with the 5th pick for the Lions. However I agree, I would love for the Cardinals to decide to move up to 5 and give up a 3rd and 4th rounder to get there. (and then draft Will with it)

    Worthy of top 5 pick

    Luke Joeckel, OT
    Eric Fisher, OT
    Dee Milliner, CB
    Ezekiel Ansah, DE
Jarvis Jones, OLB/DE (if he clears medically)
    Dion Jordan, OLB/DE
    Kenny Vaccaro, S ??

After watching some of the combine guys who definitely should not be taken. Bjoern Werner. Domontre Moore (12 reps at 225? wtf)
