3 day mini-vacation: salt lake city or drive to ????

  • My wife and 4 year old have airline tickets to SLC for the middle of September. Problem is, the plane lands into SLC and I've been there. Should I try and drag the girls to a national park or should i just hang close?

  • Change the flight to Reno and drive to Lake Tahoe

  • Park city? Moab? He'll drive to Jackson?

This country was built by people who worked hard then went home and had just a few too many every night. Then went back to work.

  • The middle of September is one fine time to hit southern Utah. Zion (and the gateway town of Springdale is great) and Bryce Canyon, or Moab area (with Arches and Canyonlands) would each make a great three day trip.

Hit Crown Burger in SLC and either head to Zion, Moab, Canyonlands, or Arches. Personally, I'd hit Moab.

  • Agree with previous poster. You could also stay in SLC and take day trips to Park City or go into Little Cottonwood or Big Cottonwood canyons. A 4 year old would have a ball running on the trails and climbing the boulders.
They have a rail/sled ride at Park City resort. Don't know if it's open during the summer.

  • Park City is sweet in September.

  • drive times from SLC: Yellowstone to the north about 5 hours
    Moab is about 4 hours
Zion/Bryce Canyon also about 4 hours

As others have said, Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons
Park City is cool in Sept - not too crowded
Timpanagos Cave south of the city about 45 minutes but the little one
might be too young; a bit of a lung buster hike but not bad.
The Temple area is pretty cool - no I am not Mormon
Some nice brew pubs in SLC ( Squatters, Red Rock )
Cheesesteak hoagies at Moochies ( was on Diner Drive ins and Dives)

Yellowstone is a haul because once you are in the park it's like 30 mph. That would be an overnight.
