4 4-star FB commits for Michigan today. Wow

Thomas Gordon has actually been one of the more successful ones at Michigan of late and he wasn't that highly-rated coming out of CT. I think he led them in tackles in the Sugar Bowl or was close.

But I mean let's look at some other sterling examples...

Will Campbell - need I say more
Cissoko - think I bought a bag of Frito's from him at 7-11 Wednesday night but not sure
Teric Jones - bust, not even 3star talent
Dior Mathis - Oregon has tried to turn him into a slot WR and Dorsey said there was a rumor he tried to transfer here and we said no thanks
Hollowell - jury still out but 5'8
Richardson - jury still out but saw him get outclassed at UA Game
Jenkins-Stone - jury still out, looks like a solid prospect to me but those with better view say he regressed during senior season

I wouldnt be surprised if Richardson and Jenkins-Stone end up being busts. I actually read scouting reports that said this Jourdan Lewis kid was Cass' best player last year by far.

  • getting a 3 star out of Ohio is better than a 4 out of Michigan. Michigan 4 stars are weak. You get a few 5 star recruits in Michigan that are successful (Gholston, Woodley, etc.)

    That is an absurd statement.

Not entirely. The coaching at the high school level in Ohio is way better than in Michigan for the most part.

Now THIS is some Walverine worthy spin. Bravo.

Anyways, this doesn't bother me much. It looks like we are gonna be pulling in some great recruits this year of our own and we all know that our defense is gonna turn heads again in 2012.

EDIT: Try and spot the totally unintended pun in there.

There just comes a time where you have to ask yourself if you're doing all that can be done? Look at all the Detroit-area schools MSU has hit with Dantonio.

I agree but it sounds like CT producing d1 football players is becoming a self fulfilling circle. Trieu tweeted recently that a 2014 LB from Oak Park just transfered to CT.

CT produces d1 football players so all the players with d1 talent transfer there. Would be nice to see Det Ren have some good players again, and you dont see the big time players transfering into there.

Supposedly Teric Jones wanted to come to MSU, MSU already had Baker and Caper. I think MSU not landing anyone is a combo of WIlcher and these kids childhood allegiances.

Like I said what CT produced in the last 5 years is kinda overrated and the 2 that were any good went OOS because they didnt like UM. True Wilcher could have pushed them away from MSU but honestly the MSU program wasnt all that attractive when those 2 came out.

It was their first in the school's history.

They had like... 9 D1 guys on that roster. They should have won the state title.

And they did win so that comment should not have been made. I rag on CT recruits as much as anyone, but saying that they dont win state titles when they seriously won one four months ago is a little ridiculous wouldnt you say?

Unless the argument is that their talent has been overrated until recently, in which case I would have to say it's a viable point...

Edit: By 'recently' I mean 2011 or 2012 and forward...

It'd be like U-M fans getting in a tizzy about Reschke going to MSU.

In-state 2013 so far has been MSU and U-M absorbing the leans. Nothing more. These aren't even 'battles' yet.

As for Cass Tech... MSU will never get a Cass Tech kid unless the kid has two parents that went to MSU and even then it wouldn't be in the bag. Someone down there has a bug up their ass about MSU and they funnel kids away from going there... plain and simple. Not worth worrying about. Any one associated with Cass Tech or knows their coaching staff who says otherwise is just feeding you the company line.

Except we didn't even offer Reschke (and neither did many other good BCS programs). If we would have offered, he would not have decided so early (IMO). He is good friends with Shane Morris, who seems to have a magnetic personality. With that said, I think Reschke will be a good college player. However, at this point, Michigan is in on several very good LB prospects; guys like EJ Levenberry, Shane Jones, Dorian O'Daniel, Jaylon Smith, etc. Smith is most likely an Ohio lean until his brother's standing with the team is more concrete. If Rod Smith transfers, then his brother's recruitment is most likely wide open.

With that said, you are correct. The Cass Tech guys and Shallman were expected to eventually pick Michigan. You can not deny that Michigan has a significant amount of recruiting momentum right now, and it couldn't come at a better time; the Midwest is loaded with talent this year.

If MSU can continue to develop players and toss in a few studs every year or two (guys like Worthy, Gholston, Bell, Cousins, Adams), then you will be fine.

  • recruiting season, the only time um actually "wins". Get out of here with this garbage, come back when you've won something real. Congratulations about getting those great 17 year olds though, they don't stand a snowballs chance in hell of beating MSU.

What rock were you born under?

    1. Reschke has said things that portray his excitement to smash Morris into the ground. His decision was independent of UM.
    2. Gholston was the only one of those recruits that was touted as a stud. The rest fit into a category that UM fans don't understand (think of Kovacs^2).

  • Michigan Fan here, first time posting on this board but long time reading when I'm bored or on the shitter while on my iPhone. I must admit, when you sift through all the bullshit and idiocracy (not just you guys, but any blog/message board), you guys have a pretty entertaining message board and I enjoy reading it to get the other perspective.

I am ecstatic with the start that we have had to the recruiting season - Hoke and staff have done a great job of building their classes early the past two years, and keeping them together, which is something that I can't say for the past staff.

Reflecting most of the sentiments on this board, I personally would have expected every one of these players that committed today to drop for us at some point, maybe with the exception of Bosch. I'm not gonna sit here and get overly excited because a lot can change, but definitely a solid foundation and something our program can build on - Because let's face it, we need to rebuild our team to a Big Ten quality/style roster (especially the lines.) I think last year's recruiting season and this year will do that.

As for MSU - Respectfully, we will always get better recruits than you - I don't mean that as a knock, but it is what it is. Does that mean that your classes will suck? No, Dantonio has shown that he can recruit well and close well - I was very surprised at how he closed his class this past recruiting season with guys like Cox. Oh yeah, he seems to be pretty good at that whole developing of talent thing (especially on defense.)

Having said that, I'm a little annoyed at the meme around here of "yeah, be happy with winning at recruiting because you never win anything on the field" - While I understand and respect that you guys did beat us four years in a row (that's a big feat against anyone, especially a rival), some of you try to act like football started in 2008.

Recruiting DOES matter - Is it everything? Heck No - I think MSU, Iowa and Wisconsin prove that. But it DOES, as I'm sure every coach in America will tell you.

We are pulling in studs - there's no doubt about that. The real telling barometer will be how Hoke & Co. can develop talent. Don't get over confident and look at the past four years - RichRod and staff were terrible at developing (and keeping for that matter), talent. Our classes looked better on paper than yours those years on signing day, but they turned out much worse.

I'm not gonna sit here and proclaim Hoke and Staff the Kings of developing talent - because that remains to be seen. But they CANNOT possibly be anywhere near as bad as RichRod was.

I'm very excited at what they are doing for our program and extremely excited about the players they are bringing in - They are building our roster for a Big Ten style of play, which is something we clearly lacked last year and was evident when we played you and admittedly got out - muscled.

Looking forward to some great battles between what I think will be the Big Three in the Big Ten for the next decade - Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State!

    Foster Mathis
