4-star OSU transfer may consider MSU or Iowa

  • Center Brian Bobek claims that Urban Meyer doesn't like the fact he's only 275 lbs.

“After about 8 weeks of evaluating prospective transfer options, I can now announce that I requested and received my release from my athletic scholarship at The Ohio State University. I am in the process of visiting and considering offers from a couple of schools, one from the Big 12 and the other from within the Big Ten. I expect to make that decision within the next couple of weeks."

Bobek's brother is a FB at MSU and his father and mother both lettered at Iowa. So I'd venture a guess it's one of those two schools, ***if*** the offers are out there.

If he goes to MSU or Iowa he would have to pay his own way. I don't believe players can transfer within the conference and receive a scholarship.

  • Maybe Manne could get another 20-30 pounds on him.

Might come down to how much he values his kidneys

sit a year (can't get back) and pay his own way for a year. It's what Uthoff is doing transferring from Buckyville to Iowa.

Isn't there a new rule that allows the "pay your own way" part to be voided? I seem to remember this being an issue with a basketball transfer recently.

  • Sounds like Bobek was schooled pretty good by some incoming freshmen.

Maybe he's not worth pursuing, and if Ferentz didn't offer him in the first place, I trust his judgment.

Not sure if Bobek had an offer from MSU.

    Anyone know?

Yeah, they recently dropped that restriction.

Rivals shows offers from OSU, MSU, and Purdue.

Then I'd definitely put him as an MSU lean at this point.

Did his brother mostly ride bench at State?

MSU offered him out of high school, but with Klatt, Jackson, and Allen on the depth chart I'm not sure if there would be another scholarship available for a 2011 center. I can see MSU accepting a transfer, but only if he projects well to guard. Or defensive line.

  • New rules help on the years of eleigibility left and may even help on the scholarship end.

Kid was a standout athlete with a high GPA. Why would MSU not be interested in a player where they already have a relationship with the family and his brother was a walk-on for Dantonio's team?

His mom is a CPA. Been with PriceWaterhouse for 25+ years and is a partner.
Can't sell mom on MSU's accounting program being be that much better than Iowa's. Can't slam her alma mater.

Well didn't it used to be that you had to pay 100% of the tuition, but now you are eligible for academic scholarships?

It depends. The school you are leaving can waive the B1G restriction, but they don't have to.

This. The staff is very high on Allen and a transfer who still needs another year in the weight room won't catch him. What does our depth look like at OG right now?

    Royal

  • I really doubt we're looking at him unless he projects to DT. We are loaded with interior linemen, have very little space, and are in desperate need of OTs.

that makes a lot more sense. Between Jackson and Allen I can't imagine why any Center would transfer here - the spot is locked up until 2015.

    I didn't think MSU was involved...doesn't seem Dantonio's style.

Transferring within a conference is a dooshbag move. MSU plays everything above board. thumbsup
