401(k) rate of return

I avoid target funds and simply have 3 index funds. Vanguard has some low cost index funds.

What Narwal said. My guy uses a select few mutual funds, it's what he spends all day researching. Not sure how yours works but my gf doesn't have the option through work of getting into a single worthwhile fund.

Haven't looked at last years yet, mainly because I'm lazy and am sick of tired of the market. Hell, if the last 11 years had just averaged what they did the past 100 years, I'd be retiring after next year. But the last 10-11 years have done nothing for all practical purposes. One day I'd like to witness the magic of compounding interest.
Either way, I'm still on target retire 4 years from now if I choose to. Thank god the wyfe works.

Finally got around to checking my rollover IRA and the ROR for 2011 was -10.05%.
The good news is that my ROR for 2012 is +8.9%. so I am very close to being back where I was at the end of 2010.

just got my 2011 statement ..... basically flat, though technically i lost about a tenth of a percent on the year. Thank God for the good fourth quarter rebound, though.

Checked mine again, realized its finally above early June 2011. Thought, "Wow, things must be going awesome right now!" Then checked and realized its only +4.8% in 2012 to date. Not bad, certainly better than 2011, but hardly "awesome." I guess after 2011, though, it seems pretty awesome.

I do. I had the choice and went with the Roth. Never looked back as I believe it is a much better decision.

Hmm....... this thread made me go check my Roth 401k from last year. It grew 2.09% in 2011, compared to 14% in 2010 and 20.4% in 2009.
