I have a hard time believing they bring up Turner before september call ups

They may not have a choice if Penny and Porcello keep pitching like shit

I bet Furbush gets a call up before Turner.

I doubt it. Tigers has a long, storied history of rushing players up no matter the GM. I say we trade him for value before we ruin him.

Yeah, that is what I mean. I think they let him get a full year at Erie or at least bump him up toe Toledo in July

Has it ever worked out for a player under Dombrowski?

Bonderman was rushed and is currently out of baseball
Maybin- bust (could have just been a bad draft pick by DD though)
    Miller- see above
Porcello- regressed since 2009, velocity down

I'd like for them to keep Turner down the whole year, but you're right, with this staff don't count on it. Look at the Royals they have tons of top prospects all in the minors still.

    See: Justin Verlander.

If Turner keeps pitching like this it's going to be almost impossible to keep him down there. I'm sure they'll give it some more time to see how Porcello and Penny respond from poor starts and Coke responds to an unsustainable start.

I love Raburn at 2B if he can play average defense. We are stacked with average corner OFs with potential. Dirks had a great game again today with 2 HRs and 2SBs. Thomas is also hitting well down there. Wells is pushing for more PT and is trying to give us reason.

As a counter argument to yours:
Bonderman - Was pitching very well until he was injured and never fully recovered.
Maybin - We saw major flaws in his game and dealt him while his value was still high, same with Andrew Miller
Porcello - The alarming problems were there the whole time. A contact pitcher typically isn't better than a 4-5 SP. His velocity has consistently dropped. Should have been dealt for Halladay when we had the chance. Too early to write him off but at this point he sure looks like a good 4/5 pitcher.

While guys like Crosby and Oliver need to be slowly progressed, Turner is special. There is no reason he can't do what Verlander did and is doing now. Every player is different but if he can handle AA the way he's handling it now, he's going to be able to help this team before August.

  • Dude. Verlander was drafted out of College at 22 years of age. They still got him his work in AA. Waaaayy different than a guy out of high school at 19.

Verlander was much more polished and had a full repertoire of pitches. Bonderman was brought up without a 3rd pitch and had to work on it in the majors. He would have been much better off working on it at AA or AAA.

If they're going to bring up Turner or Oliver they need to have at least 3 good pitches, not 2 good pitches and 1 developing pitch.

    Exactly.

another way to look at it:

Verlander pitched 453 innings from when he graduated high school and reached the majors. He also benefited from being a three year starter in college and the strength & conditioning.

Turner has 135 IP since high school.

  • Man, I have been dying to see Andy Dirks get called up. Him and Bryan Holaday were the two most exciting young players I saw I camp this year.

He might want to start hitting in Toledo before he worries about hitting in Detroit

No kidding ... people all gaga for a guy that had a couple of hits today to raise his average to .244 in AAA.

  • Hey look, Raburn struck out again. Is it just me, or does it look like he uses a 12 year old's bat?

  • Aroldis Chapman just got clocked at 106 mph on a high and inside fastball in Cincy. I am sure the actual speed was somewhere at 103-104. Andrew McCutchen had to step out of the box and collect himself lol

Oh no, criticism of Raburn. Punisher99's alarm just went off. Look out.

I don't think you understand. In spring training Dirks outperformed both Boesch and Wells. They took Boesch because of what he did last year and Wells because he was right handed.

I never said I want him called up ASAP, just after watching him this spring I was looking forward to seeing him in the majors when the times right. I have been following him all season and checking box scores and I know hes been struggling and probably shouldn't be considered right now.

I'm a Holaday fan as well, but Murrian is from the same draft class and is in AAA. Brantly is viewed as a way better prospect at catcher, but he's down in Grand Rapids right now.

Him not being on the 40 man kinda hurt his chances as well. They already took Gonzalez so I doubt they really wanted to send two guys through waivers and have an overrun of Outfielders on the 40 man.
