A Game of Thrones: For People Who Have Read the Books SPOILERS

If Walder Frey dies of natural causes I will be furious.

I can totally seeing GRRM doing it though lol

He's over 90 at the beginning, so it wouldn't surprise me.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

  • Old man Frey and Roose had better die in incredibly agonizing ways. Seriously. Whether it's Zombie Cat, Jon reborn as Azor Ahai with a flaming Longclaw or Arya riding in on Nymeria and going to town on those guys - I want them to suffer and suffer horribly. The Red Wedding pissed me off something fierce.

here is my bet...Zombie Cat uses Jamie to get revenge. Right now Jamie is being led to slaughter by Brienne of Tarth, and he looks all but certain to be about to die. Which mean he is going to escape, GRRM never goes for the obvious and as a result i think there has to be some sort of twist turn that intervenes. Plus i just can't fathom GRR spending all those chapters going into insane detail about Jamie training with payne on his left hand to not have it ever come into play and make some sort of difference to the story. So speaketh the bear.

Your average UofM fan and I have something in common, neither of us went to UofM. Though we do share One major difference, I got Accepted.

True. I could see the Kingslayer needing to redeem himself. And yes, all that training with Payne will pay off eventually.

    Quentyn Martell

Quentyn Martell is the elder son and second child of Doran Martell, but not his heir owing to Dornish law. Quentyn, while not a handsome man, is intelligent and dutiful to his family. Though Doran has put out various misleading rumors as to where Quentyn has gone and why, he confessed to Arianne that Quentyn's true mission is to court Daenerys, or as Doran describes it, to bring back their "heart's desire": "vengeance", "justice" and "fire and blood." In Volantis, Quentyn and his companions have trouble securing a ship willing to carry them on to Meereen, and must adopt false names and sign on to the Tattered Prince's sellsword company, which has been hired by Yunkai to attack the city. However, on reaching Meereen and revealing himself to Daenerys, Quentyn learns that she is about to marry another. She tries to reassure him not to lose hope for Dorne, reminding him that "the dragon has three heads." The day after her marriage, her missing dragon appears and terrorizes a crowd of spectators. Daenerys orders the dragon to stop, then mounts him and is carried off. Afterwards, it is discovered that she had been offered poisoned food, and Quentyn is set up to take the blame by Daenerys's husband, the real poisoner. Not wanting to return to Dorne empty-handed, he offers the Tattered Prince the city of Pentos in exchange for his support in stealing the remaining two dragons so Quentyn can take them back to aid his father's army. While attempting to free the dragons, he is severely burned by Rhaegal and dies a few days later from his injuries.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quentyn_Martell#House_Martell

    Did Quentyn Succeed? [Spoilers]

It may seem a strange question, obviously, but consider the following.

Quentyn, accustomed to being addressed as "Prince", is an ordinary looking man.

The "Tattered Prince" is also customarily addresses as "Prince", and is also an ordinary looking man, so much so that he claims all he need do is remove his distinctive cloak, and no-one will recognize him.

Most of the Windblown come from the Seven Kingdoms, and speak the common tongue.

The second prince may ALSO have been present (anonymously) when Quentyn freed the dragons. Quentyn expected him to be present, but Merys merely claims he is "nearby". Four of the Six windblown who accompanied Quentyn and his 2 Dornish accomplices were masked and anonymous. One, a crossbowman, was killed and eaten. The Tattered Prince may have been one of the remaining three.

When Viserion roars at the Windblown, Quentyn hears Pretty Meris yelling at someone (Tatters?) to get out of the way.

Viserion, the dragon Quentyn may have been forming a connection with, seems to have left the city. Could he have taken Quentyn with him? Quentyn was burning, last time we saw him. But Dany was burning as well, when she left on Drogon, and she is quite alive.

The burnt-beyond recognition "Prince" who spent 3-days dying on Dany's bed, and occasionally speaking only a few words, may have been Tatters and not Quentyn.

I just finished ADWD and the part with Jon Snow being betrayed. I didnt see where Melisandre breathed life back into him. Is that a preview for the next book?

No, the preview was from Theon's perspective. We won't know what happened until the next book. I think it's worth noting that GRRM said smoke, not steam was coming out of Jon's wounds.

That would really suck if my favorite character died. Damn. First Ned, then Robb, and now Jon. I hope the theories are correct about him.

  • So now that it is official and Robb marries Talisa, what do you guys think of the change? I personally think it ruins Robb's character. In the book, he was like a miniature Ned. Everything he did seemed to be based on honor and what he thought was right for his people. The thing that is even more annoying is book Robb is around 16? I think TV Robb is closer to 20 so IMO he should be much more mature and be able to keep his physical urges in check. At this point in the story, does Robb even know that Bran and Rickon are "dead". His mom even tells him he made an agreement with the Freys and he should honor it. If I recall correctly, book Robb didn't have that luxury.

Based on that episode it seems that TV Joff has more honor than TV Robb. I mean it took Cersi and basically the entire small council to convince Joff that he didn't need to marry Sansa because she was the daughter of Ned. Robb on the other hand basically says "well she is hot and i wanna keep fucking her so I am going to marry her". Since we all know Robb's ending is coming soon I don’t think it has a major effect on the entire story, but I do think it destroyed Robb's character.

  • As I watched the final scene last night, it seemed to me like the guy leading the white walkers (long, white hair) looked a lot like Benjen Stark.

SPOILER ALERT IF YOU HAVEN'T READ ALL FIVE BOOKS

For those that have read all five, we still do not know Benjen's fate. His name comes up once in awhile, but we've never found out what happened to him. After seeing the final scene and what appeared (to me at least) to be Benjen Stark leading the white walkers, I wouldn't be shocked if Benjen does turn out to be their leader. I was always under the impression that he likely became one. Although no one that has read the books would know what happened to him, I imagine Martin has discussed future plots with HBO and maybe HBO is purposely making that guy look like Benjen.

Or...maybe you guys don't think he looks like Benjen at all...

  • Ok - I'm on book 3 and don't want to many spoilers so I'm just posting this and will check back later. I wanted to post in the other thread, but thought I might be giving some spoilers. So the show has a different path for the storylines, but ends up having the same destination. I know in the books, Dany's handmaids don't die and her dragons aren't captured. So what's the deal with sealing her into the vault? Did this actually happen in the books and I'm forgetting it? I have to say, the house of the undying was the most boring part of the books, I thought. Is there something I'm forgetting with all that? Could someone refresh my memory and just explain why she went there and the purpose for it?

    Much appreciated!

I agree about the change in the story being bad for Robb's character, but the thing with Joffrey was clearly staged for the public to create a romance between the king and quren-to-be to win favor with the public.

Yea good point. While I was watching it I was assuming this was the first Joff had heard about the proposal. But seeing as how Varys and LF are on the council, it would be impossible for him not to have known.

The Red Wedding will be pretty rough, but I think i will be more upset about book Robb dying than TV Robb dying. I find TV Robb to be very annoying and I can ALMOST understand by Roose would want to kill him. It seems everytime Roose and Robb are discussing and planning Talisa comes walking in and Robb dismisses Roose. This should never happen!! A random girl should not be able to walk into the King's tent when ever she feels like it.

I think Robb's character has been changed a decent amount. In the books I felt he was based 100% on family and 100% on honor. He shows a moment of weakness when he learns that Bran and Rickon are "dead" and I think that is when Jeyne comforts him. In the TV show he gives way to physical urges which seems very out of character for him.

I assume the changes were to make the viewing audience more attached to Robb and make his death on the same scale as Ned's, but I think there is a reason GRRM didn't give Robb a POV.

So what does everyone think will happen to Arya? Is her becoming a faceless man and hunting down her kill list too obvious? I hope at some point she is reunited with Jon Snow or Sansa.

Also, what becomes of Bran? Does he live permanently North of the Wall now as a greenseer, stuck in those deep caves?

That's my understanding as well. There are a lot of references of the Others not being gone but sleeping for 1,000 years. I think this suggests they are their own race. Think back to the first scene from Game of Thrones. There were wights in that scene but also an Other.

I'll be interested to see where her story goes. It seems to me that part of becoming one of the faceless men is letting go of your identity (aka her kill list).

It's tough, the plot with Arya hunting down the people on her list seems almost too obvious. I'd love to see her reunited with Nymeria. Arya, Jon (as Azor Ahai, natch) and Rickon all with their dire wolves, slaughtering the Lannisters and Tyrells would be all kinds of awesome. I think Bran stays put. Isn't he already becoming a part of the tree?

Yeah, I think it was also part of the plan to get the Tyrells to side with Joffrey after Renly was killed. I can't remember if that was Tyrion's doing or his dad's.
