AC/DC: The Greatest Rock N Roll Band in History

  • Pure Rock and Roll...the very essence of it. Kicks ass and amazing consistency and the greatest rebirth in music history with Back in Black. Saw them after Flick of the Switch and it remains the best concert i've ever seen. For my money, no one can touch them when I just want to rock the fuck out.

  • Calm the fuck down dude. AC/DC was Nickleback before there was Nickleback. Remarkably "consistent," in that almost all of their songs sound the same. Bon Scott era AC/DC and Back in Black are awesome, everything since, not so much.

Hells bells has always been great, too.

I was seriously obsessed with AC/DC from about 1983 to 1987....just about any record before Razor's Edge is brilliant and brings back a lot of memories. Like talking my first girfriend into letting me bone her in my dad's car to "Let me put my love into you" lol

Depending on the day I'd probably name 3 different songs as favorites, but those are among the best for sure. Like i said above, what's great are that songs like Shoot to Thrill and Soul Stripper are on those classic albums too. And the absolutely positively do not sound like the songs before and after them. Anyone who says so is a fucking idiot.

I got into them because my older brother had all their tapes. Now, I have all their tapes. I should dig those out. I remember buying the CD of Razor's Edge and getting into trouble over Got You by the Balls.

I wouldn't hold out on those AC/DC tapes.

  • My only problem with them is that Angus and Malcolm write all of the songs now, and the lyrics have gotten much dumber over time. I'm pretty sure that they still had some of Bon's lyrics when they made Back In Black and probably For Those About To Rock - though they deny it. Still, they're on a very short list of greatest rock bands. Here are Angus and Malcolm sharing the stage with one of the other bands on that short list...

  • i'm curious to hear other nominations for greatest Rock and Roll band from those who disagree. And I don't consider AC/DC "heavy metal" either...which they themselves disabuse as well. They consider themselves a "Rock band" - I suppose that could be deemed a relative category, but I think it's pretty straight forward.

I should have made it clear in my previous post, but I consider AC/DC to be superior to Nickleback. My point was that each band has been commercially successful, has a shit ton of devoted white trash fans, and most of their albums are indistinguishable from one another. If you like post-grunge, Nickleback is your shit. If you like straightforward 4 chord hard rock, AC/DC is your shit. Musical taste is subjective, but if either band is your favorite, my opinion of your musical taste is decidedly negative. And I genuinely like AC/DC.

This. They might be the funnest band in rock 'n roll history, but let's not get carried away.

    OTHER NOMINATIONS:
    Beatles
    Rolling Stones
Bruce Springsteen & the E. Street Shuffle

    HONORABLE MENTION:
    Nirvana
    The Who
    Led Zepplin
    Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

I admit, this is a somewhat backward-looking list, but every "art" has its age, and rock 'n' roll peaked in the 60s and 70s. Great bands these days are more the exception than the rule.

  • If you stick to heavier electric bands, the best ever are Zeppelin and The Who. Pink Floyd, ELP and Yes are in a slightly different category. AC/DC is pretty low on my list.
