AC/DC: The Greatest Rock N Roll Band in History

  • Pervis Muldoon said...

There's no reason to get all spastic about this; it's just a little offseason discussion.

John Bonham may well have been one of the greatest drummers EVER, but he was still a drummer. So was Keith Moon, who's also recognized as one of the greatest drummers EVER. Yet the Who continued after his death.

It's not a matter of being irreplaceable. If you think Page, Plant, and Jones couldn't have made great music without Bonham, you must not think much of them - and that doesn't seem to be the case. They just decided not to try. AC/DC is a family band, and that probably had a lot to do with their refusal to quit playing together. If you think John Bonham was more important to the sound of Led Zeppelin than AC/DC's lead singer and main lyricist was to them, you're a silly person.

Gilmour stayed with Pink Floyd until they stopped playing. I think you mean Roger Waters, or possibly Syd Barrett.

It's just a sensitive topic for me because Zeppelin changed my life when I needed it most. I think them calling it quits was the honorable thing to do. Bonham's son could have filled in, eventually (as seen at O2). And Syd Barrett was there before Gilmour, but the band reached way more critical acclaim with Gilmour (The Wall, DSOTM).

And I like AC/DC. They are a fun band to listen to and get wild to. They just aren't in the top tier of great rock bands IMO. To each his own.

What is that, a Titleist? A hole in one...
