So who is invited to the Adidas invitational and where is it held. Does um being an Adidas school factor into the invitation list?

Adidas Invitational Preview

One of the top events on the spring camp circuit was always the Midwest Showcase and while there is a new name this year in the form of the Adidas Invitational, the talent level is still at a high level with several of the top recruits from the class of 2013 and beyond headed to Detroit this weekend. Here's a brief overview of what to expect before CBSSports.com heads out to cover things at the Pontiac Silverdome on Saturday.

In another more recent piece I see that it is moved to Concordia in aa. There is something in the water there. Nothing good happens with Spartan recruits in aa. I presume that this event is set up for college coaches to see players perform. Are the coaches allowed to talk to the participants. If they are I hope a Spartan contingent is there fighting the um mind games.

Yikes. Anything Adidas-sponsored in Ann Arbor is going to be a UM propaganda re-education camp.

Warning: The thread over there turned into a um recruiting love-fest and bash MSU thread. It is not with out some humor though. My favorite was the one claiming that the Spartans got DeAnthony Arnett because of Rich Rod.

I mistakenly posted in that thread. I feel pretty poor about that decision.

In the thread on the blue board a poster names HelloHeisman 21 asked "Steve which Michigan commit do you think helped himself the most from this event?"

How does someone who has already accepted an offer from um help himself? Maybe get an offer for the Spartans or O$U?

I am being facetious. I know they are talking about recruit ranking. But if a players has already committed he is not going to improve his situation. It is clear that a large part of the fan base is interested in placing well in the mythical recruiting championship.

I understand being pleased that a recruit did well in an event with other high level players. Asking if a committed recruit helped him self strikes me as being too focused on the metric rather than the ultimate goal of getting good players on the team.

What some people on this board fail to do is step back from their fandom and try to look at it from the eyes of the prospect.

These "mythical recruiting championships" you speak of can really help the school not only on the field, but with future prospects. School with top 10 recruiting classes get more air time on ESPN on their recruiting shows. It might not be a big deal to a HS junior, but it can have an impact on HS freshman and sophomores.

The only reason why we don't care about "placing well in the mythical recruiting championship" is because we don't really have a shot at top 5 classes. If we did, we wouldn't be making comments like this. I don't care what anyone says, I would love for us to have a top 10 class.

This is all very true. And honestly I would be very happy with with a top 25 finish.
