I'm just going to copy and past what I wrote in another thread about Alabama v. ND. To sum it up, having to hear about ND will be a lot worse than what we have had to endure in terms of hearing about the SEC.
When it comes to Alabama fans, they are mostly found in Alabama. Since I do not go to Alabama, I will not have to hear about it too much. However, ND fans are everywhere. God help us all if ND wins a national championship. We will be hearing about how this is one of the greatest teams of all time because it took down the mighty SEC, we will be hearing about how it was dark times for college football and ND saved the sport, and we will be hearing about how Brian Kelly is the greatest coach in all of sports. There will be absurd fan predictions like "ND will win the next four national championships. Maybe more." It will be endless and it will be horrible.
On top of that, the sports media needs ND to be really bad or really good so they can talk about them nonstop. Since ND fans are everywhere, and in such great numbers ND gets its own TV contract, the media will be full on slurpfest to get more readers and viewers. It will be SEC coverage multiplied by 1000. You won't be able to turn on ESPN without seeing Lou Holtz. Bob Davie will quit his job at New Mexico to go on an ESPN sponsored ND tour. They will travel around and visit all of the sites where ND claimed victory on their way to their historic national championship. Want to watch some college basketball on ESPN? Guess what? Digger Phelps and Dick Vitale are only going to want to talk about ND's national championship.
If Alabama wins, it will be "Oh look, the SEC won another title. They are so much better." If ND wins, it will be a nuclear fueled football bomb engineered by Irish Catholics and dropped on the epicenter of the sports world.

Saban was willing to stay at least a little bit longer had MSU actually talked with him about his salary instead of wanting to blow him off until the end of the season. He probably wasn't going to stay for an extended time since Saban isn't a guy that stays in any one place forever, but a few more years of him would have done much good for our program.
Kelly has won everywhere he has been, including a mediocre program at Cincy. Cincy has no brand name and he still took them to the BCS. Based on his track record, I am confident that he could have pulled in solid players at MSU and would have won here, too.
