I guess I never gave my first team:

    Magic
    MIchael
    Lebron
    Duncan
    Shaq

No Bird on the first team? Neither Duncan or LeBron (yet) are in his class.

  • 1st team
    pg-Magic

    pf-Duncan

    2nd team

    sg-Kobe
    c-Russell

Duncan is the greatest PF of all time.

And I don't understand the "yet" comment. We are talking talent here. Not championships, stats, etc. I think Lebron is a more talented basketball player than Bird.

Bird would have destroyed Lebron. DESTROYED him. Lebron may be more athletic, but mentally Bird would just kill him, over and over and over... putting 3's in his face then talking shit to him.

And Lebron wouldn't be able to send Juwan Howard out before the game to tell him to give Lebron respect... Bird would have laughed at Howard, hit another 3 in Lebron's face, and talked even more smack.

This. No way can say lebron is better at this point in their careers.

Birds career was shortened because of injury too. Only played 12 years. Should not have replaced his mothers driveway himself. That is why he is and was so loved though. He wasn't afraid of work evidenced by his 800 shots a day. Does anyone know how many shots per day guys like Lebron put up?

People forget how good Bird was and his mental toughness. That is something in his DNA and something he learned from his father. James has learned that. He himself admits he wasn't mentally tough in the past and has pouted too much when things don't go his way.

I wouldn't bet against James though. He should win more championships but only time will tell.

  • Lebron may say he is mentally tough now, but he's not... especially compared to the game in the 80s. The only reason the Heat won this year is because the Thunder out-mental-midgeted the Heat... last year, the Mavs mental game didn't waiver and the Heat folded.

It had nothing to do with talent.

The only player in today's game with a championship 80s NBA mentality is Rondo, because he is batshit crazy and a hard worker.

Wow, you are out of your mind. Lebron is a better scorer, defender, rebounder and passer than Bird. Bird probably a better shooter.

Wait, so you didn't play in the NBA in the 80's and you don't play in the NBA now, and you aren't inside the minds of any players, but you're going to talk about the mental toughness of the game and even use it as the reason a team won a championship?

You're starting to sound like Skip Bayless.

There is no "probably." Bird is one of the best shooters ever. LeBron's jumper still blows.

Ok, well Lebron shits on Bird in every other aspect of the game besides shooting and passing. Bird wins in shooting, passing is probably a draw.

I honestly don't understand people's determination at not giving Lebron his due. Do you actually watch the games? I've never seen a physical specimen like Lebron. Bird was a great player, but if Lebron even just gets one more ring, he HAS to go ahead of Bird. He's a better player.

  • lol.Bird is the best passing small forward in the history of the game. And deadly shot in crunch time before his back gave out.

Being a Pistons fan,I had no love for Bird back in the day,but LeBron couldn't carry Bird's jockstrap.

The BIGGEST advantage Bird has is mental toughness.

  • You guys picking James over Bird are nuts!

So the guy is a physical specimen?Whoop di doo.

The only advantage I would give LBron the edge is in rebounding.

Bird in his prime would have had LeBron talking to himself.Oh wait,he already does that now.

lol... ok, buddy. Bird would have handed Lebron his ass. I don't care if Lebron can dunk. Every time Bird would have stolen the ball from Lebron he would have hustled down the court and hit a 3 while Lebron complained to the refs. His mental game was through the roof and Lebron's is barely off the floor.

Also, besides being a better defender, Bird was a better passer than Lebron.

I wonder how many of the Lebron over Larry crowd actually saw Bird play. Many posters here were babies when Bird was at his peak.

And some think LeBron is a better passer?lol. What a joke.

BTW,I used to hate Bird the way he used to kill the PIstons.

I'll admit to only seeing Bird at the end of his career, and that's why I won't call either opinion "nuts" like some are saying. Both were/are obviously great players.

But it's not crazy to say Lebron is a better basketball player than Bird was.

What (specifically) does Larry do better than Lebron besides shooting?

    Passing: Draw
    Shooting: Bird
    Rebounding: Draw
    Pure-Scoring: Lebron (by far)
    Defense: Lebron (by far)
Ball-Handling: Draw (Lebron is more explosive off of dribble tho)

All of the Lebron-haters are starting to get so annoying. Don't give me any of this "mental-fortitude" shit, its such a cop out. Lebron one-on-one would absolutely destroy Bird.

  • Bird was a shell of himself the last few years he played because of his bad back and he was still one of the top small forwards in the league.

I respect LeBron's talent, but the physicality of the league in those days is not something that LeBron would have been able to meantally handle imo.

I would even go as far as to say it is arguable to even callLBJ a small forward.

You have added nothing to this debate besides your dipshit opinion.

Career APG: Bird- 6.3, Lebron- 7.0

Bird with a much better supporting cast.

So let's see, Lebron is a much better scorer AND a better distributor overall than Bird.

    Yet Bird is better?
