Stfu. He could help with recruiting. The coaches really really really need someone to excite the prospective recruit to pick msu. He has rison could be that guy now that enos is gone.

  • great player he was but he has been no angel off the field which makes me scratch my head. Child support issues, convicted of felony theft, passing bad checks, drunk driving, unlawful discharge of a firearm outside of a Kroger, jail time, throwing a dude through a window at a bar, the abuse issues with Left Eye. If this hire were made by a rival school we'd all laugh and criticize.

No we wouldn't. But quality assumptions all around.

...but rival schools don't have Dantonio in charge of their football program.

yeah...there's a reason he played for 6 teams in 12 years. HOF level guys generally don't do that. However, he was a great spartan who was part of the core that won our last Rose Bowl, and if as a student Asst. he can come in and teach these kids how to run routes and catch the damned ball and provide a little lift in recruiting, then it's a win win. Andre gets a chance to better his life, and he brings some serious cache to the team for recruiting and coaching WRs. not sure how anyone could complain about this. we all know he was no angel, but people do change when they get older. I think he'll do just fine.

How about proper route running? Using your hands to catch the ball. Come on dude.

Obviously he's going to work with the receivers, but how much coaching responsibility will Dantonio give him? What will his role in recruiting be?

Are you asking tanner those specifics?

Are you a coach? Because if you are somebody needs to tell you about talking about coaches you've coached against. Especially if those coaches went to your university. Dude, I'd never want to drink a beer with your crew if that's what they're about. Keep your attacks to Bo, Hoke, and Brandon (although if I was still an active coach, I'd shut up about them too). Speak well of a team you're going to play against next year, and shut the hell up about what you think to be unorganized. What the hell is a matter with you?

He is a perfect guy to connect with the kids on good decision making. You probably wouldn't want Marvin Harrison to coach on your team as well?

  • Wow, people are getting their panties in a twist about bringing in an all time great at MSU as a STUDENT ASSISTANT while he finishes getting his degree, just because he's had some off the field issues? Really??? You'd maaaaybe have a complaint if he was being hired as the WRs coach. The cachet having Rison on staff will bring with WR recruits and any tidbits he can give to current WRs on the roster heavily outweighs anything negative due to some of the issues Rison's had in the past.

For those that don't like this move, is MSU only allowed to bring back a former player to be on the staff in any capacity who has been squeaky clean their whole life? I guess we better prepare for the uproar from you if Charlie Bell, Nix, Linthicum, Bullough, or Sims were ever to come back to MSU on the coaching staff (football or basketball).

He said he coached against Rison, but I highly doubt it. All the HS coaches I talk to follow your method. Even when talking to officials. Officials leave talking about coaches or teams to after the competition in the privacy of the officials locker room. Like you said you don't talk about coaches you are competing against, unless it is praise. Hell even with what Coach D has said he has never attacked another Coaching staff, same with Izzo, when all that crap with Wisky was going on he never said boo about Bo Ryan, everyone knows they don't really like each other, but in the media they never talk badly about each other.

A former all pro alumnus returns to school and wants to help out in a limited role, gratis? I'd rip Scum for NOT bringing him on board.

Most of us read it this way, but was it clearly stated that his role would be gratis? He could be paid regular (paltry) hourly student wages. Or, it's very rare, but I've heard of undergrad assistants, which are like grad assistants, only with a stipend. (Also paltry.)

In any event, money is not the point of this story. It's a great story, I think. Dantonio will define his role well. I think it shows courage by Rison.

    Wigrich

  • Do any of you read?

He's going to be a student assistant.

He has not graduated with bachelor's degree yet and will be an undergrad student. This is a non paid position.

Coach Samuel will of course continue to be the WR coach.

Bob would certainly know the recruit if the kid played at ELHS.
