I will look for MSU and Boise State to be ranked artificially high in pre-season polls to pimp the opening matchup.

Fine by me; MSU should win that one.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

  • Ranked #6 ?, that must mean a 5 team playoff is coming.

I think it's about 8-10 spots too high, but what the hell? MSU will know in the first 3 weeks whether or not they deserve a high ranking.

Think we can win in the hornets nest that is Mt. Pleasant?

I'm high on Maxwell, but he going to be in some high pressure games early in his tenure. Boise, ND and OSU in 3 of his first 5 games. There isn't much room for error if they want to maintain those lofty rankings.

We should beat Boise soundly. They will be a solid team, no doubt, but with everything they lost, its going to be a tough year for them, especially in the early go. They always play well to start the season, but next year i just dont see it.

ND @ home, and lets be honest, they arent that good. Our loss was inexplicable this year. We can shut them down on D.

OSU @ home, and they still will suck again next year.

  • What's wrong with an NCAA that deals USC a harsh probation and these cheaters are number two in the SI poll and #1 in another poll.

OSU will probably be #1 in 2013 if things keep going this way...

Limit USC to 75 players and they are still going to be good.

Well, they managed to avoid the major restrictions until this season, meaning they've been bringing in "normal" USC level talent for the past few years. They also went 10-2 & beat Oregon despite have nothing to play for.

Oh, and they have the #1 QB in the country coming back for another year.

And they play in the weakest division in football.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Yeah our defense has the potential to dominate every opponent. I expect to win those games, but not by scoring points by the bushel.

Our offense didn't exactly run up and down the field on ND and OSU this year. And everyone sees how many starters Boise has lost, but lets be real, no one really has any clue how good their replacements may be. I don' think Peterson stopped recruiting 3 years ago.

  • "If a Big Ten program is going to challenge an SEC power before Urban Meyer gets things rolling at Ohio State, it's going to be Michigan State. The Spartans may lose Kirk Cousins, but they remain the most athletic team in the Big Ten. No one in the league has a specimen like defensive end William Gholston, and tailback LeVeon Bell should ease the loss of Edwin Baker to the NFL."

Les Miles continues to prove that a lab monkey can win games with great recruiting classes but Dantonio has showed that a great coach can take recruiting classes that aren't rated high but with great development can turn those classes into really good players.

  • WAY to high IMHO. We are a top 15 team. No real proven WR. QB will be a let off, but only hopefully slight. I like our D though.

I agree Rocky. New QB, questions at WR. D should be solid.

From a BCS perspective, I hope we get ranked that high. Good schedule, alot easier to stay near the top in the BCS when you start off ranked highly even if you lose a game or two.

Loved that quote. Amazing what a 3 pt. overtime bowl win against an SEC team will do to the perception of MSU nationally. I don't think that we'd be hearing the same quotes if one of our kicks misses, or one of theirs goes through. As coachd says, "it's a game of inches".

For those that don't think that "national perception" isn't important think of these different scenarios:

    1. MSU starts the year ranked in the top 10 and beat both mediocre Boise and ND along with the other 2 non conference games. Probably enter conference play in the top 5.

    2. MSU begins the year unranked and does the same thing. Might be ranked in the top 15.

The positive publicity generated ultimately translates into more national TV exposure and buzz, better recruiting, better bowls etc. etc.

At the end of the day it's all about winning. But that "PERCEPTION", as Izzo and the b-ball program have created and cultivated does wonders for the program.
