Any good sci-fi tv shows/anime out there?

  • It seems like all of the good sci-fi shows got pulled. I really liked Stargate. Looking for something in the last 5-10 years that you would recommend. I've watched Stargate obviously, along with battlestar galactica, and a few others. I heard some good things about firefly but there aren't that many episodes. TIA

  • Dr. Who is pretty solid.

  • Anyone that watches Anime is a huge loser.

If you're OK with the lesbians I've been watching Lost Girl on demand. Not must see TV, but good in a Xena kind of way.

Can you help with a discussion we had yesterday? How much does Subway save per year by only giving you one napkin?

Yes but you have the inside connections us normal folk don't. So answer the question.

For the record, I ate Subway yesterday and received a sufficient amount of napkins. In fact, it was one more than I needed.

Not to hijack my own thread, but what did you do with the extra napkins? I usually get some extra to put in my car, but sometimes Subway is stingy.

  • it was only on for one season because of the writers strike and the stupidity of NBC but Journeyman was a very good show. If like Quantum Leap you would like that show. If you aren't watching Fringe right now you should be it is an amazing show.

    Cool, thanks for the suggestions!

  • Baccano is a very cool, prohibition-era anime series. Basically a bunch of gangsters with an inability to die, along with some thieves, a train, and a fast-paced placed plot that jumps from year-to-year in the early 30s. If you're looking for something that's not cliched anime, I recommend this. It's on Netflix.

  • just a heads up, if you haven't seen Fringe and want to watch it from the beginning (which is best to know exactly what is going on). The beginning of the first season is ok but not spectacular. Be patient with it because starting with the back half of the first season the rest of the series is epic.

  • I've never seen Dr. Who, but I watched the spin-off (?) Torchwood for a couple of seasons. The special effects are terrible and there's a fair amount of gayness. If you can get past that, the stories were amazing. The mini-series "Children of Earth" might be the most gripping thing I've seen on television in the last decade.

Agreed. I almost gave up on Fringe after the first few episodes. Lame X-Files rip-off, thought I. I'm glad I stuck with it.

  • Battlestar was great, at least for most of the series. Lost Girl is entertaining. I like Eureka as well. All of these are/were on SyFy. One of my friends really likes Warehouse 13 but I never checked it out. Firefly was pretty sweet but you can knock out that whole series pretty quickly, still would do it though. Doctor Who is tip top, the modern series is about 6 seasons in now. Ignore the first episode.

Being broadcast right now; Bleach & Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood are awesome. Bleach is about 2 billion episodes so have fun catching up. Death Note was great but it's on the not being broadcast anymore list. It is on NetFlix though. Also on NetFlix which I thought were great is Blacker than Black & GunXSword.

On top of the great writing - the actors are absolutely terrific in that show. Even most of the supporting roles are played by actors who are absolutely stellar at what they do. Solid solid show.. very confusing at times and it gets pretty out there -but one of the better shows out there.

  • Life on Mars from UK is a pretty good show too, they made an American version that I liked as well until they completely ruined the series with the series finale. The UK version has a different ending, that is why I recommend that version instead.

the fact that John Noble has not won an Emmy is crime

Warehouse 13 is quirky and fun, I enjoy watching but, you have to enjoy it for what it is light hearted entertainment

I've been a big fan of Fringe since the beginning but there were points during this season where I was ready to give up. I will give it high marks for closing the season strongly. The last four episodes were very good.

I heard that from some of the media as well and I don't get it, there were strong episodes throughout. Without spoiling it for people who haven't seen it, they had to build off what happened from last season's finale and how it affected everything. I felt for instance the early episode "And those We've Left Behind" was incredibly strong.

    +1

I believe The X-Files are on Netflix. Watching all the X-Files episodes can be daunting (there were 9 seasons), but it is worth it. Some of the effects, especially early, are cheesy, but the writing is top-notch.

Fringe is a great show too, many of the episodes have an "X-Files" feel. Definitely watch it from the beginning, though. It will be very confusing if you jump in somewhere in the middle.

    I'm lost
