  • Yeah, I was snoring a lot when I was younger. My dad also has it. He now wears a mask at night, which is weird, but he loves it. Said he gets way better sleep than before and generally feels better.

I actually got my tonsils removed along with the "hangy ball" at the back of my throat, along with some tissue. I have learned to sleep on my side more, which also helps.

  • My best friend in HS got diagnosed with it--

tried losing weight -- that didn't help
tired the surgery -- that didn't totally help
finally got the CPAP and has been very happy ever since. Well except for how much we all made fun of him for it and the time we busted into his room at a party and bonged beers out of it...

  • Do you need a sleep study to get a CPAP machine? I know it is placed at a certain pressure based on your sleep behavior but damn they are expensive and my deductible is high unfortunately.

    Imisspancheros

  • nytimes article about two weeks ago said about 50% get the cpap machine and stop using it within 4 weeks. GL

If you can somehow manage to get a chick to still bang you with one of those in your room you deserve a medal or something.

You can make it part of the Stormtrooper vs. Princess Leah fantasy though.

  • I just got a CPAP machine in February and it has made a world of difference. I used to wake up exhausted because sleep apnea is the double whammy of essentially choking you in your sleep and interrupting your sleep to the point you never hit REM sleep.

Now I wake up feeling rested, I've lost weight because I have the energy to get back to the gym, and my wife is more willing to have sex with me because she isn't going go bed pissed because my snoring is going to ruin her sleep too.

It is weird, but you get used to it. I also happen to have a "mask" that only covers my nostrils so I don't have that fighter pilot look the bigger masks feel like. I hope to lose enough weight that I don't need it anymore, but has been such a huge improvement to my daily life.

    what brand mask is that

  • I was diagnosed back in December and have been using a CPAP since. It has made a difference, though not as drastic as I had hoped. I have noticed that I actually remember my dreams now.

I guess the biggest improvement is that I never have that exhausted-and-struggling-to-stay-awake feeling anymore. I still have a hard time waking up in the morning, but the I certainly don't miss those bouts with exhaustion.

The sleep study was a bit weird, but not an unpleasant experience. Unfortunately, you will likely need two, one to diagnose the apnea and another to set the CPAP.

The CPAP mask certainly takes some getting used to. Keep in mind that the insurance companies require that you use them to receive coverage. I had 3 months to average 6 hours a night with the mask. Unfortunately, one side effect of the deeper sleep I was getting was that I would unconsciously remove my mask at night. The CPAP tech admitted to me that, while the machine knows if you're wearing it, it doesn't know if you are actually sleeping. To keep the usage high, you can simply wear it while watching TV or something. That being said, I would highly suggest that you try your hardest to use the CPAP everytime you sleep.

    I'm lost
