Anyone else a little disappointed so far with Walking Dead?

  • They had to kill off the one male character with balls, he was interfering with their Jane Austen book club.

Read World War Z - that's how the military loses to zombies.

Summary: Our military isn't trained to fight essentially a napoleonic war - we're trained for a battle involving armor.

World War Z is great at explaining how a modern military would be overrun. Old school firing lines taking calculated head shots are more effective than heavy armor going in guns blazing. Zombies don't stop and take cover when you are throwing grenades or rolling around in your Humvee.

Isn't that movie coming out soon? Reading hurts my brain.

    SPOILER ALERT!

This isn't exactly news. He was cast in Frank Darabont's latest project a little bit ago.

Way to spoil it for those who didn't click on the link and didn't want to know the spoiler.

And there had been speculation that he might be in both shows because neither he nor the producers of the WD would deny or confirm the question. I think they where waiting until after this WD ep aired.

But lets be real... He out lasted the comic book character by eons. The story needs to get back on course: rick royally fucking up everything for everyone.

Kind of. What World War Z ignores is that a line of tanks could literally just run over a horde of zombies and crush them beneath their tracks. The battle they depict isn't at all how a military commander would react. Obviously anti-tank rounds would be ineffective.

I think World War Z does have interesting themes regarding government failure in times of crisis, but the whole zombie apocalypse genre suffers from the fact that a zombie outbreak would be trivial to put down.

That's what I'm saying. I feel like a couple Humvees rolling around with guys manning the .50 cal on top would be mowing down zombies like bowling pins, or just a few guys with SAWs. Why would they use anti-armor rounds when they have a shit ton of anti-personnel weaponry. Flame Throwers for example.

How do you take down a zombie? Head shot. SAWs, 50s, and flame throwers would be ineffective. The tank strategy could work, but the best way to take down a zombie is a headshot, which is something we only train our snipers for.

Well burning always works in pretty much every movie. Well done crispy zpmbies stop moving. SAWs & 50's fire a whole lot of large bullets really fast, kind of shreds flesh, probably blow their heads smooth off.

OK, we'll continue to ignore the laws of physics and chemistry and allow zombies to move anyway. But you can't ignore that a crushed zombie, or a zombie blown into little pieces, or a zombie napalmed to scorched bones is no longer a threat.

Flamethrowers would require the user to get way too close to the zombie. Dropping napalm would be effective, but you would still need clean up crews.

As for the automatic weapons, if they don't get a headshot, the zombie continues to move. Moreover, if the zombie's legs get blown off, it's still there in the ground, dragging itself towards you, still as lethal (if less mobile)

What are the giant foliage/cave busting bombs we dropped in Vietnam and Afghanistan? I would think a good approach would be getting them rounded up in large numbers and dropping one of those bad boys.

Also funneling them into a valley then blast away would work... Just gotta get them to congregate

Are we assuming that one become a zombie through something other than a bite or scratch that becomes infected? Because if bites or scratches are the only way the zombie contagion is spread, a man with a high powered gun is more likely to take down a zombie before the zombie gets close enough to bite or scratch.

Bites and scratches are a really poor way to spread infection.

Not sure if you watched the teaser for the next episode, but I think they'll be forced to move on soon. It ain't going to remain safe.

Also, that was the worst possible way for that character to die tonight. I thought he'd be murdered, not randomly taken out by a lone walker.
