I dont recall whether they get into it or not in the comics... but I believe part of the rationale (other than being like hey I have zombie petslaves, how bad ass am I) - disguising the human scent. You may recall how in season 1 they covered themselves with zombie guts, and how various characters had hidden themselves under walkers - well having 2 around her, who are basically incapable of harming her- goes along way in her avoiding detection.
