Even if you do weights often, push-ups do add value.
They're quick to do, you don't need to warm-up, they involve more muscles than a regular bench press, and you can make simple modifications to emphasize different things. About 100 in 3 sets is a good number if you're already pretty fit -- but obviously everyone has different needs / will fail at a different number. If you keep going till you fail, you will absolutely benefit.
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

I have a crappy shoulder, I cant even do a real push up with it. But I do an inverted, sissy as pushup, up against the bathroom counter, that has restored me to about 80% strength and 90% mobility in the shoulder. HUGE improvement.
And now, my kid has brought home an Erg (Concept 2) and i will row my belly off all summer! yay.

I do - all of the latest fitness trends, people wearing weird shoes to run in, high carb/low fat., low carb/high fat, low protein/high carb, high protein/low carb diets, etc just proves how gullible Americans are...
nothing wrong with running and doing some sit-ups and push-ups afterwards...

I have been in a major rut at the gym so I started P90X at home which is requires very little equipment and pushup variations are the focal point in the chest workout. Anyone have any decent results with that program?
Also, what's that old story about Lawrence Taylor? He never touched a weight in his life and bulked with only pushups and sit ups. Could you imagine having genetics like that (if true)?

You have to keep at it or you lose the benefits. For example, if I do four on Monday then take a day off to let my muscles recover, I can do five on Wednesday. But if I skip a couple of extra days and don't do them again until, say, Friday, I'll find out that I've actually regressed: I can only do two and a half or three.
