Anyone else still do pushups???

  • TerryLove said...

If you guys step up your game you can turn out just like Herschel Walker (for better or worse). Apparently he does 1500 pushups, 3500 situps, and one 8 mile run a day... all while only eating one vegetarian meal each day. He claims he never uses weights. If that's true, I'm guessing it works because that dude is a beast.

genetics might have something to do with it.

I must be crazy to be in a loony bin like this.

To some extent... but if he at McDonalds and drank beer (something he has claimed to have never done), I kind of doubt he would resemble the man he is/was. Genetics have a lot less to do with build then you would think... but hey, it's a good excuse if you are lazy and feel guilty about looking like a fat slob.

edit: not you, personally... just people in general haha.

No doubt it's a combination of factors. thumbsupflex

I don't. Depending on what your goals are, I don't see the point in doing body weight stuff like that unless they are really challenging for you (i.e. people just starting out).

That is dumb. Push ups are the oldest way to build a better body. They are good for your chest, triceps, biceps, delts, and you can do them anywhere. Think of it this way: do 10 push ups after every set at the gym. Easy way to pace yourself and add more to an already solid workout.

I didn't say they were a bad movement....just depends what your goals are.

Pushups you can only load your body to a certain degree....then it's more muscular endurance and such.

If you are looking to exercise your muscles and get a decent workout they are great......but it's NOT the same as doing bench press on a linear progression program.

    Again depends on your goals.

And to the guy that said Herschel Walker built his body on pushups....LOL. Herschel Walker is a once in multi generations maybe lifetime athlete with crazy ass genetics. He would have gotten built if he just lifted regular weights or he'd be cut as hell just eating McD's all day. Genetics play MORE of a role in muscular build / ultimate size of muscle built than people choose to realize (if you do it drug free).

  • on Chest and Tricep workout days I'll do 25 standard push-ups between exercises... usually do 100 - 150

I bought some batteries, but they weren't included... so I had to buy them again. What do batteries run on?

There are ways to increase load, and some variations (like delta) that target smaller muscles are very effective.

A couple months ago I was doing 3 sets of 40-50 (can't remember if I ever did 50x3). Now I "push up" very fast into the air so that I can fully extend my fingertips against the ground. That greatly reduced how many I can do. Hopefully I can get back to doing those ridiculous all limbs of the ground pushups, but I haven't been in a routine so they seem too challenging again.

  • My current slam piece does them.

    spartan dawg

  • If yall want a real workout, try cock pushups.

    Royal

  • I do the P90x chest/back routine once a week (don't do the entire program, just an ad-libbed kinda deal)

They have you do six different kinds of push-ups twice each. I end up doing around 225 or so.

Real good workout and I feel myself getting a lot stronger. Pushups work, they can just be a bit hard on your neck and elbows.

Obviously a bench does more for your chest than push ups...

And, actually, genetics only make up 25 percent of a person's weight and health makeup. Walker is an exception in most cases, and I have seen him in an interview say that all he eats is salad and chicken.
