Anyone have experience with a Private Investigator?

anyone have any advice or something along those lines. How much one costs per hour, how long investigations usually take, how i would go about contacting one, or if anyone has someone they would want to recommend. Anyone that's had a PI before, how happy were you with the work and information gathered?

You really need to be more specific about what your goal is - do you want an investigator to follow someone around, do you want to find out more information on a specific person, i.e. where they work, how much money they make, whether they own property, etc... it really depends. Most information you can gather online yourself

My Uncle is one, former police officer/detetive. I believe he charges $500 and that get you 10 hours, not sure what he charges after that.

my two uncles own a PI company. Both were All-Big 10 Judo guys at State in the seventies. The older went on to become a Detroit cop, busted up his back really bad trying to break down a crack house and went on permanent disability. It was passed down to them from their father, a former FBI agent. Amazing the amount of info they have access to with just a social security number. Not sure their prices, but they know what they're doing

If you are just looking at having someone to trail the suspect, then I know of someone too. He graduated from State two years ago and dealt mainly with insurance fraud. He was professionally trained though, and knows all the tricks of the trade. He's moved on to a different job since then. But, I'm sure he wouldn't mind making a little extra money.

you should probably just hire an internet message board legend to drive by the targets neighborhood and house in a jeep very slowly with a shaky camera phone halfway above the dashboard. Definitely have him post it on the internets for everyone's amusement.

A retired MSP office I know is a PI who does work for lawyers and a few companies. Fallenangel is right about SS#'s. A lot of info. I know his fees start at $1000.
He does child custody cases (you did take the child out of state/you did leave you child with a sitter and hit the bar on your visitation weekends and we have video) and has done corporate work like background checks for high level executives where he collects transcripts to make sure the person does have the degrees they claim from the schools they claim and all their titles are legit.
He did say that a few times his corporate work ended up embarassing some folks who thought their divorces, ancient DUI's and renaming college majors caught up with them a decade later.
