Anyone on here a cop?

It's also inappropriate to say you don't understand all the hate they get, when there are grave injustices occurring on a daily basis.

    What?

    like 99.9% of them, right???

Yes, just like 99.9% of MSU students are couch burning rioting drunkards.

It's so much fun to paint an entire demographic with one sweeping negative generalization, isn't it? (And this isn't directed at you Motown darling)

    What?

You said you don't understand all the hate cops get when there are plenty of people who have had their lives ruined because of dirty cops.

    They probably deserved it.

That makes those cops bad people, not all cops bad. Do you see what I'm getting at? Minnie touched on it, sweeping generalizations are what is inappropriate. The sentiment on this board and seemingly across the nation is that you're likely to have an eightball planted on you if a cop doesn't like you, which is NOT the case. Some abuse their power, but tell me one single profession where that doesn't take place? There are bad apples everywhere, my advice is to refrain from letting it taint your view on an entire profession.

Being a dick and being a loser in a position of power are two different things. My uncle is a huge dick and everyone who knows him acknowledges that, but these people do more than swing a nightstick and pound donuts, when you need them they come running o save your ass.

Well I guess at this point you're just trying to argue semantics with me. I haven't run into too many officers in my time (so maybe my first couple statements were a bit of a reach) but the ones I have I found to be very manipulative and condescending.

Example: I was at a party last year and it got busted by the cops. Cops started knocking on the door, kid whose house it was opens it and they start to question everyone there. To make a long story short, they told the people there that it would be easier on everyone if we would just blow. 2 kids blew and got put on probation for 8 months, had to pay thousands for lawyers, court costs, etc.

those fucking cops....breaking up a party that is highly likely to have underage drinkers in attendance. THOSE BASTARDS!!!!

I don't have a problem with breaking it up but being being deceitful towards impressionable kids I do.

    Jack Passion

  • How were they being deceitful? They had reasonable suspicion the kids were underage and were intoxicated. They did a proper search and your friends deserved MIPs. Get over it.

    Keith Stone

  • Were those kids breaking the law? I don't have much sympathy for them, and I certainly don't fault the cops. That's part of their job, enforce existing laws. They didn't break any laws in the process, it sounds like a totally legal operation. You can argue the morality of the situation, was the party hurting anyone, why did they have to go bust it up, it's none of their business, but that's more a critique on the justice system and not the police officers themselves.

They never forced the kids to do anything, maybe they should know the law better. If a cop forced him to blow, thats a different tale altogether.

Telling the people it would be easier on them to just get it over with and blow. Definitely didn't make it any easier on them and the people who decided not too ended up being fine.

Yeah EASIER because otherwise they probably woulda taken them to jail.

Should the cops stop and question everyone buying booze on in East Lansing becaue it's highly likely they are buying it for minors.

Go to QD on a wednesday night and watch all the people walking out with 100 bucks worth of liqour. Do you seriously believe that someone is buying that much liqour for themselves on a wednesday night and has no intentions of supplying any to minors? Most kids at state are under 21 and most of them drink, mathematically speaking you could say a large percentage of the boose bought in this town is for minors.

Plenty? Dirty cops? Give me examples. I firmly believe that this number will be very low. That's like saying the entire military are worthless killers because 1 guy goes off the deep end and kills civilians.

Maybe they should. Are you proposing they just not enforce the laws you don't agree with?

It is pretty funny to go into a QD parking lot and look at all the minors sitting in the cars waiting for their friends to return with all the alcohol. I've had a couple people "hey, mister" me. I always think about taking their money and not returning.

on what basis? Cops can't just take people to jail willy nilly, the officer probably lied but he doesn't have to be honest. It's not his responsibility in that case. The law says the kid doesn't have to blow, he can if he chooses to. the cop goaded him into it, but that doesn't make the cop an asshole, it makes the kid stupid.

People who refused were fine. I guess it just bothers me too because the MIP seems like such a money grab rather than protecting kids. Such is life I guess.

I don't know the law exactly but on the basis of being intoxicated? I've heard a lot of cops say "if you don't blow I'm taking you to jail where you will have a blood test" or something along those lines. I probably just stirred the pot more by saying that...

  • The point that this thread has been hijacked on is that Cops as a whole get a bad rap when they truly don't deserve it. OP, if you wanna be a cop, understand that people will blindly hate you, not respect you, call you names on message boards, but ultimately will need you one day. You'll have to make judgement calls that people won't agree with but you will eb the authority and people will have to accept your decision and move on. It's not a glamorous gig, but it's your choice to make.

i believe that is true if you are under 21 and they have reason to believe that you have been drinking, or if you are any age and driving.
