Arnett probably won't be back next year -new LSJ beat writer

  • The Matador said...

Didn't get playing time early. Coaches blew this up IMO.

So they should play a guy that they don't think is as good as other players just to appease the fans?

Arnett was dropping passes too at the start of the year.

    Some kids are gamers.

Not to appease the fans, but to show him he'd get a shot.

    The Matador

  • Hmm, maybe Arnett just isn't better right now than the guys in front of him. His whole situation has a weird vibe.

    Walter_Sanchez

  • There are several reasons he may not choose to return. They are Fowler, Mumphrey, Lippett, Burbridge, Kings, etc. all of whom are showing improvement and will almost certainly be better next year. I think he may have thought he was going to be handed a greater role than has been the case.

How did coaches blow this up?

  • I remember when he was wide open, maxwell hit him for what would have been a first down and potentially 5-10 more yards in the Eastern game. Was early but we needed to get something going. He dropped it.

Similarly, I remember when Burbridge got his chance to start.. He made play after play..

    Jfaspen

  • My opinion is the kid has gone externally with his issues and the coaches don't appreciate it.

This is the second time where info like this has leaked to local media.

  • If this is true, I'm sorry things didn't work out better and I wish him the best.

  • To me, this just seemed like the whole process was too rushed right from the start. Gets released at end of season from Tennessee, committs next day to us, had to rush to appeal for hardship case.

Obviously this is hindsight 20/20, but he really should have sat out this year after his transfer instead of declaring for the hardship case.

I remember that play as well. It seemed like it was a throw a little bit behind him, but very catchable.

It seems like attitude/personality is the conflict with him and the coaches. Couple that with the fact that other receivers have improved and you have a situation where he isn't playing. None of us are at practice and team meetings to know if this is the case, but it's what I'd guess.

According to Graham Couch of the LSJ. He was on Mad Dog in the Morning and was asked about Arnett. He said that there is a disconnect between him and the coaches and that's why he isn't playing. Since he still has a red shirt year because of the waiver he can transfer and sit out with out losing a year of eligibility.

It doesn't shock me, I'm sure Arnett wants to play.

I am sure the LSJ will be fielding a few important calls from the athletic department today. Graham Couch will learn he needs to keep his mouth shut on things like this.

I totally agree, at this point it would have been smart to sit him for a year. In the spring though they probably wanted as many potential receivers to take over as possible.

Exactly right. The "gamer" stuff is BS. Playing time is earned in practice and never given on the hunch that a kid is a gamer.

The State News printed an article with quotes talking about Arnett being disappointed in his lacking of playing time. I thought it was around the Central game.

Of course there's a disconnect. The coaches think lippert is better, and he's clearly not.

Oh...there's a disconnect all right. It's between your brain and the keyboard.

Of course there's a disconnect. The coaches think lippert is better, and he's clearly not. Id be pissed too. Goes right back to my atl professor theory, that the coaches don't want to look dumb playing him. Now go watch him blow it up in ann arbor next fall.

This may be your dumbest post, EVER. You have no idea what goes on practice and to suggest the coaches would risk winning to "cover their asses" is beyond idiotic.

There was nothing "leaked" you dumb shit. It was the opinion of a mildly connected guy on a radio show. He didn't say "sources told me this" or anything.

This is just a common sense non-story. I hope he doesn't transfer, but based on his track record and the age of the guys in front of him, it's not far-fetched.

Simple, by sticking w mumphery and especially lippett, when it was clear neither are going to be anything more than 2nd stringers at the wr spot. 4 losses, and no rose bowl in the weakest big ten in a decade when we were the favorites. What more needs to be said?

Then again you still support bw.

Have you watched the last three games? Because I totally get you saying that if you got so mad, you quit watching 3 games ago. It would have made total sense at that time.

Apparently you haven't been watching us play this yr.

Did you skip out on the last two games? The receivers were the bright spots on offense.

That is complete and total bullshit if they do call and try and muzzle him. He is not employed to write only what the university sees fit for him to write. That is the same shit Meyer and Kiffin try to do and everyone on here loves to rag on them for it.

You do realize that mumphery, lippett, and fowler have all dropped several balls this season right? This thought could easily be applied to all of them. The entire receiving core was dropping everything coming their way the first four or five games of the season.

I think it would be a shame to see him leave, people can think what they please but the fact is Arnett was not even given the opportunity to make an impact in games. Touching the ball once or twice in the first few games of the season isn't going to spark confidence or cohesion.
