Article about how teams shouldn't try to lose in conf tourney

Thoughts? I know most people here want MSU to lose early to rest up.

  • This stood out to me.

"Twenty of the last 32 Final Four teams have been conference tournament champions"

Which means MSU has three of the 12 teams that buck the trend. Interesting.

  • Arguing that it's better to be rested is the biggest crock I've ever heard. MSU can play a maximum of 9 games in the next 25 days. Hardly a factor for 19 year old athletes.

  • I don't think it matters one way or another.

Matters for our seed this year with BJ out and the committee making it known they are watching to see how we will respond.

Great article, thanks for posting. I think it certainly shows that winning a conference tourney (and playing in 3 games back to back to back) has no downside at all as far as making a deep tourney run.

Obviously Izzo has had success with teams not winning in the conference tourney's as had Roy Williams. Of the past 8 NCAA champs, all have won their conference tourney's except for UNC in 2009 and 2005.

Count me as " most people here want MSU to lose early" not a member of that group.
This will be the first year since 03 i havent been to the BTT.
I think " most" here want MSU to win every game they play

Right, didn't UConn have to win 5 games in the BE Tourney last year? If so they played 11 games.

  • I don't think anyone actively tries to lose a conference tournament.

It's basically been proven that winning conference tourney games doesn't have any negative effect on playing in the NCAA's and yet there's still MSU fans that want to lose. Makes no sense.

Who wants to spend money to go to BTT and the Spartans lose early? It ruins the weekend. I know Indianapolis has a better setup for the tourney, but I miss it being in Chicago.

I never thought it was anyone wanted to lose, more just that they don't care if we lose if Izzo is using it as prep and time to work on sets and lines. If what he works on happens to also win some games and the tourney, then sweet, I don't think anyone would be disappointed.
