At the Iron Maiden Concert in Chicago

I've seen Metallica live twice. Worth the price of admission each time. They go 2-2.5 hours and it's just nuts.

Never seen Priest live. That's on the to do list.

Not a huge AC/DC fan. I appreciate them, just don't know if I could listen to them for 2 hours straight. More of a change of pace group for me.

    Lemmy is a rock god.

Priest is done, I guess they're just doing the European festivals. I heard they were good live last time they hit Jersey but it sounded like Halford couldn't sustain the energy. Seems like he might be a bit burnt out which is understandable.

For AC/DC it's all about Bon Scott. I wasn't much of a fan until I was turned on to the Bon Scott era. A few listens to Powerage and High Voltage made it all click for me.

Metallica saw them opening leg of the Black Album Tour at the Palace and then saw them Faith No More and G N R. Both times were EPIC.

Anywhere from $30-$150. Depends on where you want to sit. They were going for $250+ on Stub hub.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

I'll just put it this way: These guys rock twice as hard as any dudes half their age. It was approx. 92 degrees with 70% humidity when they went on and they did a full 2 hr set, 12 ft. Eddie made an appearance during Run to the Hills, they shot off fireworks, straight up fire, you name it, they did it. Dickinson did his usual "run around stage like a madman, leap off of the set/around amps" stuff. Harris was a machine; dude plays bass like rhythm guitar. Here's the setlist:

    Moonchild
    Can I Play With Madness
    The Prisoner
    2 Minutes to Midnight
    Afraid to Shoot Strangers
    The Trooper
    The Number of the Beast
    Phantom of the Opera
    Run to the Hills
    Wasted Years
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
    The Clairvoyant
    Fear of the Dark
    Iron Maiden

    Encore:

    Churchill's Speech
    Aces High
    The Evil That Men Do
    Running Free

    My jealousy knows no bounds.

The middle of that set list was sweet:

    The Trooper
    The Number of the Beast
    Phantom of the Opera
    Run to the Hills
    Wasted Years
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
    The Clairvoyant
    Fear of the Dark

I felt pretty lucky to hear them do Phantom of the Opera live. That song is incredibly good, and they still shred with the best of them.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

    The Prisoner
    2 Minutes to Midnight
    Afraid to Shoot Strangers
    The Trooper

    (with mobile Eddie)
    Wasted Years

    (with immobile Eddie)
    Encore:

Looks like our shows were identical.

  • How do they not play "Hallowed Be Thy Name"? Best song!

What is that, a Titleist? A hole in one...

Dude, I'm with you, and that was the song that got me hooked on Maiden in the first place. Still, that's a great set list and they weren't playing in front of 60,000 or anything.

  • From possibly the best show I've ever been torockon

    Play

Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name (Flight...

"Hallowed Be Thy Name" written by Steve Harris for the 1982 album "The Number of The Beast". The song describes a man's thoughts just before being sent to the gallows. He begins to feel terror and realizes he really is afraid of dying, despite claims that he's not ("tears flow, but why am I crying?/after all, I'm not afraid of dying/don't I believe that there never is an end?"). At the end of the vocal section, the man gets executed; this is followed by a long instrumental section, culminating in his ambiguous final words, "Hallowed be thy name".

Saw them 2 years ago for the Final Frontier tour (with Dream Theater) and they played Hallowed Be Thy Name as part of their encore. It was an incredible finish to an incredible show. Can't wait to see them again on July 16th here in Buffalo.

I find it a bit interesting that they played Hallowed as part of a show highlighting their "new" music, but not as part of an "old" music show. Even if they don't play Hallowed, songs like 2 Minutes to Midnight, Aces High, and The Trooper are sure to make up for it.

  • Wow, so much win with this. Storms came through and delayed the start, which resulted in us getting screwed on Alice. Played about 45 minutes instead of the scheduled hour. Maiden made up for it, going about 30 minutes past curfew and probably paying any applicable fines.
