At what point do you stick a fork in the Tiger's season...

Congrats. Nobody said the Wings were going to win the Stanley Cup. People said that you were a moron for suggesting they needed to fire Babcock.

And I still stand by that.

Stop being an annoying back biting ant / ankle biter. Standing in the shadow of GRR's greatness should make you feel better.

  • Problem is the Tigers are just a bad team. Bad hitting, worse clutch hitting, awful on defense, bad bullpen. Bad fundamentally.

  • It's June 3 and absolutely nothing that could be considered a break, good fortune, or luck has happened for this team. The injuries are exposing a lack of talent at the AAA level. Outside of the injured Dirks and Jackson, nobody is at a plus to their career norms. It's truly amazing to see, but it's the reason why there is plenty of hope

So to history...1987. The Tigers sit at 25-25 on June 4. There is a roster capable of winning but it was an early season of inconsistency. Then something clicked...leaders led, starters starting getting deeper into games, the roster settled, etc. 98 wins. Like that season, some '84 like run where the season is won by Memorial Day isn't going to happen. But there are plenty of reasons to think a winning streak could come, the team could get healthy, a trade adds a needed part, etc.

5 games back for this team as it stands may be frustrating, but it's fair. Let's see where this stands at the All-Star break before jumping off bridges....

  • You can't give up on the team until they struggle with everybody healthy. Until then, fight through it.

  • They are more than a few good breaks from turning things around. Teams like Seattle and Oakland, who gave them fits, can't beat anyone else. They need to hope the White Sox don't some how stumble into 90 wins.

There are people on this team that were not even born in 1987.

  • I was thinking that this wasn't Tiger's year. But after his win today, I think he has a shot at winning the US Open. Oh...You mean the Detroit Tigers? Never mind.

It's amazing how much trouble can arise from the misplacement of an apostrophe.

Draymond Green, Magic Johnson, and Oscar Robertson are the only players to have two triple-doubles in the NCAA Tournament.

  • The biggest reason to remain calm is that the last 13 games of the season are against the Twins and Royals. Right now they just need to stop the bleeding and get back to .500 baseball.

    I disagree.

Miggy has worked out better than expected at 3rd. AJax proved to be a decent leadoff hitter. Smyly has exceeed expectations as the 5th starter.

Probably the three biggest questions in the spring have all worked out, reasonably, well.

  • Assuming 90 wins will win the division, the Tigers need to go 65-42 the rest of the way. That pretty much says the season is over on June 6th, because they aren’t going to play .600+ ball from here on out. If it takes more than 90 wins, that number looks even worse.

A couple press releases from the Tigers:

The team will continue its year-long promotion of “Meet Your Mud Hen” by calling up Bryan Holaday. That’s right folks. Not one AAA catcher, but two! You may have never heard of them before, but you can now purchase t-shirts with their names on the back in all of our Tiger shops.

Also, we are pleased to announce that demand for Tiger tickets on the secondary market is up over 100% from last night’s game. While tickets were going for .90 cents (I’m not making that up) on Stub Hub for last night’s showdown, demand has driven prices up to $2 for tonight’s showdown (Again, not making that up). Get them now before they go to $3!!!!!!! We tried to reach Jim Leyland for a comment, but were told he was still choking down chicken and salad. In between bites, we were told he mumbled “It’s still early.”

Didn't they start 9-3 too? That makes it even harder to take in.

All that said, we are only a handful of games out and I do believe that there is plenty of time that the team can be a handful of games better than the injuns and chi sox.

I believe I heard that from game #16 on, the Tigers have the worst record in baseball.

We are 1/2 game ahead of them.twitch

  • The Tigers are just not getting very much *timely* hitting at all. The bullpen has been ATROCIOUS. Defense is right where Smokey thought it would be - not good.

If this team doesn't score 4 or more runs, it's pretty much ballgame.
