    Thanks for the helpful responses.

So the Kellogg Center and Radisson are sold out as I might expect.

So it sounds like Okemos for a safe, clean place to stay?

Last year for the Michigan game, I stayed at the Red Roof near US-127

It's not bad and I believe a CATA bus comes by and can take you right into campus.

As for dining, Peanut Barrel has been mentioned and is awesome. Crunchy's can be a good place to take a kid. Harrison Roadhouse is good, as is Jimmy's up on Chandler Road. And of course the Dairy Store is a must-visit. Have a great time in East Lansing and I hope we destroy the Broncos.

  • Someone already mentioned the Hort Gardens over by the Vet Clinic but there is also a 'kids' garden with some neat stuff there. Also hike along the river for a relaxing look at central campus. Get to the ice cream store at least once. Don't know if it will be open yet but the new Broad Art Museum on north campus is a very nice alien building plopped down at the edge of campus. ( http://broadmuseum.msu.edu/webcams/ )

Surprised nobody mentioned tRCMB tailgate! It's always in the Breslin Parking lot. Check tRCMB the week before the game for the details.

    Have fun, enjoy the loss.

  • It's a lab? I liked to think they had the cadavers stored away in the dorm rooms, all tucked into their bunk beds, or sitting at their desks.

    Ya, eh?

Yup, just like when I lived there...

  • I used to work at the Radisson. For a game like this there is a really good chance that's where your Broncos are staying. You can get on a waiting list if it is truly booked and there is a good chance a room will open up. A lot of people cancel or don't show up on game days. You can always call the day of.

The EL Marriott is an okay hotel but it is right down town, expect to not sleep on Friday. Honestly, if you can't get into the Rad I'd go with the Candlewood suites as it is sorta on campus. The next best is any of the hotels out by Jolly Road and Okemos Road by exit 110 in Okemos. Easy highway access.

As what to do? Tailgate and walk around downtown EL. You know how to tailgate don't you?

  • Can't emphasize the Dairy Store enough. Exit 110 is a decent place to stay if you can't get closer to campus or the Marriott Town Place on Hagadorn.

The hotels in West Lansing/Delta Township are also clean and safe. Probably a 15-20 minute drive, though they'll likely be cheaper than Okemos.

As far as EL on gameday, check out the stadium walk, the band, and the dairy store (like everyone else has already said.) You can also visit the football center to see the trophies, history, etc. The Children's Gardens are also kind of cool.

  • Go to Spagnoulos for pizza on Friday night in okemos. Many people including myself think it is the best pizza in the state . Thank me later!

Spagnuolo's Restaurant ‹ Place your order to go or make a reservation. (517) 349-9605

  • Might want to try the Lexington Lansing Hotel out on Creyts Rd in Lansing. It is on the highway, and not far from campus. Causway Bay on S Cedar St in Lansing. It is getting away from campus a bit, but still just a hop skip and jump on the highway.

Pizza House on Hagadorn Rd in EL is a pretty good pizza joint.

Canoe the Red Cedar River if you get a chance. Link below

If you are planning on staying in town Saturday as well, check out a Lansing Lugnut baseball game. There will be fireworks after the game. That is a good time.

ALSO, it might look a little scary from the outside, but Corey's Restaurant on Cedar St in Lansing. Great pizza and breadsticks. And on a Friday you should be able to get Aunt Rose's Kibbe. A little Lebanese cuisine!!

I think the point was that Potbelly is a chain and they could get that anywhere - including, apparently, Idaho.

Make sure you eat at GoombaS Pizza while you are at it.

  • Some thoughts:

    #1) Hotel.

Already discussed in several replies. The Kellogg Center and the Marriott in East Lansing are the only two close enough to walk to the stadium. Get on the waiting list for both. There is one Bed & Breakfast called the Wild Goose Inn, but it is extremely small and likely booked. The next choice for hotel is the Radison in downtown Lansing. Again probably booked, but get your name on a waiting list.

After that, pick a hotel that meets your taste. There is no location advantage at any other than the above.

    #2) Parking

I would recommend parking at Munn Field. This is a great field and short five minute walk to the stadium. I think the cost is around $20. It used to be the best tailgate lot for crazy parties and was the student base. However, it was shot down many years back and re-opened as a alcohol free lot. You can get away with a few drinks there, but just need to have them in cups. Might not be an issue for you with your son anyway.

Regardless, it is a great spot to park and walk around. MSU allows open on containers everywhere else on campus. You could pack a cooler and walk around as needed.

Lots will not be open until 3:30pm.

    #3) Campus.

Campus will be buzzing by around 3:45pm or so. Lots of tailgates and parties going on. You can literally have a great time just walking around. You will want to walk the river route and see the garden/rapids area. Visit the Sparty statue, especially for the band and the team walk. Nice atmosphere.

At the MSU union is a great bookstore for buying MSU gear. It is on the opposite side of the stadium, but still an easy walk to your car to put things away before the game.

    #4) Dining.

East Lansing / Lansing is not exactly the meca of fine food. Crunchy's, Harrison Roadhouse, and Peanut Barrel are three places that have been mentioned and are old and popular college town places. They will all be a zoo on game day, but would be nice places to stop in on Thursday or Saturday.

  • El Azteco if you like Mexican food. Note: the questionable service and face-melting salsa are part of its charm.

    Go Green Girl

  • I recommend getting to your seat before the band pregame show. This is a world class music program and the marching band is top notch.

As we get closer to game day there will be times and locations for where to see the band before and after the game. You have to take the time to get the boy in front of that drumline. It is an incredible experience. They are the best. Ever.

That drumline sounds like fun. Thanks for the suggestion.
