Battle 4 Atlantis at Nassau Bahamas

Someone with really deep pockets must be funding this event. It's only its second year, yet multiple top 25 programs have agreed to make the schlep down on Thanksgiving to play 3 games in 3 days, on the fucking NBC Sports channel, on a court that was hastily made from inside a hotel ballroom.
Seriously, you can see chandeliers and pipe and draping just beyond the basket. It's super ghetto.
How the hell did they attract Duke, Memphis, Missouri, Stanford, VCU, etc?

I thought I read something that MSU was trying to get in it for next year. I miss going to MSU basketball pre season tourney games. Florida, NYC, Atlantic City are the few I've been to recently. Bahamas might be out of the question but I hope they schedule another for next year.

It's unclear to me how this event got so prestigious so quickly. And further, why they can't spend a little money to make the court look okay on tv.
If you are watching, it's also fairly obvious that they are paying seat fillers, and I'm pretty sure that most of the crowd chants are fake.

How did the Maui Invitational get so big? Probably because of the funding and sponsorships. This tourney is probably no different.

They do look pretty good. Damn near unbeatable early in the first half when they were hitting their shots.
I do think it's amusing, however, that these East Coast basketball announcer types love them some VCU, but have nothing but bad things to say about stereotypical B1G basketball (smashmouth, reduced number of possessions, etc). The lack of self-awareness is pretty shocking.

The Atlantis Casino Hotel. Brings in high rollers and sells rooms in a time when they would otherwise have low occupancy. CVB for Bahamas kicks in cash too.

If you have ever tried to book a trip to the Atlantis you realize quickly the place is a money factory. Rooms aren't cheap and there are dozens of different hotels with little to no availability. This is small change to bring in fans and have a 3-day ad on network TV.
