Benenoch Lining Up Official Visits

  • dagomike said...

FYI he has a football game on 11/3 @ 6 PM. Doubt he'll pull off a visit for the Nebraska game.

I don't even know why we bother with this kid. Catapult a kid up the recruiting rankings, then get shit all over by a 17-year old. You may be talented, but whatever happened to respect and obligation? Don't keep stringing a long a coaching staff that could be allocating it's resources elsewhere.

Someone earlier said he was indecisive. And I agree that that's ok, just don't commit. By doing that and ten decomitting you've screwed more than just the coaches, but other recruits who didn't get a look from MSU because the coaches thought that position was secured (as secure as a commit can be I realize).

Someone who I thought did it the right way and didn't even end up at MSU was Lemarr Woodley. That kid loved MSU, wanted to go to MSU, but he saw two major stumbling blocks to that happening. Bobby Williams and JLS. He gave both ample opportunity to make their case and push him over the edge to a commitment. What he got was BW gone midseason and a slap in the face from JLS. Now I hate him as a college fball player because of where he went. But he never said yes to MSU just to go to UM at the 11th hour after he had his safety net.

I think that's a pretty rough assessment of the situation. Would you have considered D. Cox or Fou as stringing us along because they waited until Jan/Feb to commit? It's part of the game.

Caleb decommitted pretty early in the process. He started blowing up and he wanted to reevaluate his situation without leaving us out to dry. It's not like he pulled a Se'von on us. We've got most of this class wrapped up. If we still needed to fill 10-15 spots, I would be a bit more concerned with resource management. But the fact is we only have 3-5 spots to fill. And, the staff only needs to spend time actively recruiting those 3-5 spots. Caleb is a player that our coaching staff is still high on and it seems there is a strong possibility that he schedules an OV here and I, for one, hope he gives us a fair shake.

Cox and Fou didn't commit to us, and then use distance as an excuse for why they didnt take a visit, and then visit a school farther away that they didn't even have an offer from (Stanford). Benenoch used our offer and committed to get himself on the radar of other schools and it worked. He may be grateful that we gave him the platform so he feels like he should visit out of obligation, but I don't think he has any real interest in being a Spartan.

I look at what Benenoch did as far worse than Pittman. Pittman was always an OSU guy. He committed to us when there was uncertainty at OSU. Once it stabilized, he went to where he always wanted to go, and where his girlfriend was. It's close to home. It's an obvious choice. He visited us and gave us a fair shake, but in the end he always wanted to be at OSU.

Benenoch took our offer, said all the right things about being a Spartan for life and his word being strong as oak, and then kept trying to gain attention from other schools, and played our offer as a sign that other big time programs should be paying him attention.....When they did, he split.

I don't think he'll ever even come on a visit but if he does, I think it's likely as a courtesy.

  • It's unfortunate how his recruitment has played out so far. Would love to have him end up with the good guys, I understand the draw of the UM of the South though.

"This week, I'm proud to announce my commitment to SW Missouri State. I've haven't got to visit there yet, but I'm firmly committed and my word is my bond. Also, I'll be taking a visit to Florida, which hasn't offered yet but I feel that they're close to offering.

I wish I could get up to SW Missouri State for a visit, but I just don't have time.

Also, my new top 5 is UCLA, Ohio State, Maryland, Oklahoma State and Vanderbilt.

None of that matters though cause I'm firmly committed to SW Missouri State. I'm just doing the other stuff to get invited to camps and improve my ranking.

Also, I'll be visiting Oregon next month which hasn't offered, but I think they might if I visit."

Under Ncaa rules, he can't take an OV until after his senior year starts.

Do you know for a fact that he did these things and has these motives or are you assuming that based on your detective work? I'm glad you think Pittman is such a stand up guy for holding a spot here and decommitting at the last minute. At least Caleb decommitted in June versus December. We have enough time to fill out this class with capable recruits and we're definitely not in scramble mode to get quality kids.

The kid is 17 years old. He has the right to take his time and it shouldn't surprise any of us that a 17 year old is a bit indecisive. I like following MSU recruiting like the rest of us, but I don't hang on to every tweet and take any personal slights because of a recruit's decommittment.

I'm so tired of hearing about this kid and his "schedule". He was supposed to take a visit months ago. Clearly he has no interest in making it up here. We've got to prioritize those that make us a priority. Random sidebar, I wonder if the B10's low level of play to kick off the season is being noticed by our recruits.

I'm so tired of you and dozens of other pathetic losers on this site bashing this young man and pontificating on "his intentions." You have no idea what schools he's interested in visiting or what his priorities are. At one point, Mr. Benenoch wanted nothing more than to be a Spartan. He was even doing some recruiting for the green and white on twitter. He started getting a lot more attention and decided that maybe he should evaluate his options, but you have no idea what he's weighing his decision on. You're acting like you've been personally insulted by a 17 year-old kid's decision to look around. It's fucking creepy. Chill the fuck out.

I just want our fans to face reality.

    http://michiganstate.247sports.com/Article/2013-OL-Caleb-Benenoch-is-considering-five-schools-91499

“I do have a list of favorites and they’re in it for sure,” explained Benenoch. “It’s a top five. It consists of Texas, Oklahoma, Baylor, Texas A&M and UCLA. It’s not in any specific order or anything, it’s just the schools that I’m the most interested in and the schools I want to evaluate before making my decision.”

not a jilted lover...someone who knows how to read through some of the BS recruits feed reporters. He's been in front of this story from the beginning. He deserves credit for his consistency.

In fairness, vice versa too. The reporters feed recruits and us (paying members) a bunch of BS. They know that it'll make us feel better if MSU gets a positive spin from recruits. Thus, a recruitment like this gets a sunny MSU spin from the guys. Anyone with a brain can read that he has zero intention of coming to MSU.....But people want to believe positive news, not accept reality.

If the reporters actually covered this thing down the middle, instead of putting an MSU spin on it, they'd sell a lot fewer subscriptions.
