Bert Blyleven is baseball's first hall of fame "ginger"

NEW YORK -- Roberto Alomar and Bert Blyleven have been elected to baseball's Hall of Fame.
Blyleven was listed on more than 79 percent of the ballots, above the 75 percent required for election. He won 287 games and ranks fifth on the career strikeout list.

So Larkin will get in next but the most similar player according to baseball reference (who played the same position in the same era) won't get in ever? That sounds fair. Oh wait no it doesn't. I'm not arguing against Larking, btw. He absolutely deserves to make the HOF.

And yet they got treated far better than Whitaker. Whitaker's most similar player is Sandberg and yet he never saw the 2nd ballot.

No denying Alomar's talent, but I never liked him. Spitting in Hirshbeck's face just confirmed him as a douche in my mind.
I'm glad to see Blyleven finally make it. - he always seemed like a genuinely nice guy who played for some crappy teams for much of his career.
BTW - Speculation on ESPN today was that Morris might yet have a shot before his 15 years are up.

If Jack Morris and Alan Trammell played in New York or Boston, they would have gotten into the Hall of Fame years ago.

Morris has. Real good chance in 2013. Unless they Elect roid users or no one. Key question is will he snub the tigers and go in as a twin. He will for sure be elected in by the veterins committee. This is trams only hope too.

Biggio and Schilling will get in in 2013 and the rest of the votes will so spread out that Morris, Raines, Bagwell, Trammell. etc will probably miss out.
