Best Hot Dog ever?

I'm generally a fan of both the Chicago and Detroit Coney, but last week I may have ate the best hot dog ever from Frank in Downtown Austin.
They take a Vienna Beef Hot Dog, slice it open and stuff it with white cheddar, and wrap it in bacon and deep fry it. Then they grill a bun, put green chilie pimiento cheese in it, top it with the dog, and top all of that with horseradish slaw. Add a side of poutine waffle fries, and I think this was the best fast food meal I ever ate.

The coney is the best hot dog ever. Detroit style with the sauceir sauce or the Jackson style which is more like ground beef.

Not sure if it's technically a "hot dog", but a coney from Heid's in Liverpool, NY is by far the best dog I've ever eaten. The franks are good also, but nothing compares to the coney.

Surprisingly there are quite a few in Jackson. The Wiki page needs to be updated though. Todoroff's has been shut down for a while now. I prefer the International Dog House. They have a dogs that are loosly based of different nationalities. Italian, Mexican, German, etc. They also have a traditional Coney dog.

Grew up on "George's Famous Coney Island" Hotdog's as a kid. It was located at 6362 Michigan Avenue just down from the BOC (That's Buick, Olds, Cadillac for those too young to remember) plant. It was owned by the Vulpe family. My father started going there in 1928 and nothing much changed to either the interior or exterior of the restaurant. It was one of my favorite haunts before or after a Lions, Tigers or Red Wings game. The place was always packed, and at lunch time on a weekday there would be a slew of executives of the Big Three eating there and talking shop.
The Chicago Tribune did an article in the 70's on the top ten places to eat lunch in Detroit and George's was ranked #5, behind such established restaurants as the London Chop House, Pontchartrain, and Joe Muer's.
I went there for the last time in 1988 when I attended a friends wedding. John Vulpe had sold the restaurant a year or two earlier to a relative who changed everything. Gone were the four waiters who would shout out your orders to the cooks who prepared your coney. I always ordered two heavy. That old SNL skit with Belushi and Ackroyd being cooks yelling "cheesburger" was about the closest thing to replicating that atmosphere.
I'm planning on getting back to Michigan for the first time in ten years and will probably head to Senate or Lafayette if those places still exist.

First of all, StorkMSU has it right. The best Coneys in the United States are found at Lipuma's.
Second, Chicago does not have a style of coney, jackass. They have a style of hot dog. The only styles of coney I am aware of are Detroit (the way it should be with a more liquid sauce) and Flint which is really more of a ground beef topping. I guess Jackson has a 'style' too but it sounds like Flint style to me based on the poster's description above.

You'd be correct. Most of the Jackson area coney dogs have a more ground beef based chili like Flint... almost like a seasoned ground beef instead of the more saucy chilies you find in Detroit.
