Best route from Lansing to Traverse City?

I'm wondering what the best route is to and from Traverse City. The times are what Mapquest says, but obviously you can't always trust those times. Also wondering if a different route might be better on a busy weekend like this one vs. a typical weekend.
Route 1:
3 hrs 30 mins / 192.34 miles
US-127 N
US-10 W
M-115
M-37
Route 2:
3 hrs 40 mins / 217.40 miles
I-96 W
M-131
M-37
Route 3:
3 hrs 42 mins / 210.49 miles
US-127 N
I-75 N
M-72

Route 1 is your quickest option. Watch out for speed traps on 115.

I've made that drive probably 1000 times. Out of those options, option 1 is best.
But where in TC are you going? If you're heading toward the Resort side/Acme, then option 3 is the best. You're only on I75 for like 5 miles.
I usually was headed right for the middle of town. So a variation of option 1 would be:
US-10
M-115
US-131
M-113
Turn right on Garfield Rd in Kingsley.
All of those times you've listed are about 1 hour longer than it actually takes.

I find that Mapquest is more accurate with directions/best routes than Google Maps is. I generally try both if it's a route that I'm not sure of. In this case, I think they both suggest Route #1.

Definitely route 1. I take it to suttons bay a couple times a month year round. Also it keeps you away from traffic coming up from the dirty D. I'm headed back downstate today. I'll wave at you with my droid as we pass.

When I lived in Lansing I almost always took option #1 . Pylon is right about speed traps this weekend.
Option 3 is okay but 75 gets strange because you can't get over the number of folks continuing north that crowd all the lanes.
I live in the GR area now and Option#2 is crazy town. Every gomer from IN and the folks in GR heading north makes 131 North bound complete amateur hour.

Well it depends on how you define best:
1) no known fugitives on the loose near this route
2) at risk of meeting fugitive on the loose near Stanwood
3) at risk of meeting fugitive on the loose near Houghton Lake

If you are taking route 3, you can avoid 75 by taking Military Rd. Go right when it ends and follow to 72 west. This way, you dont have to drive thru downtown Graying. ( although you will miss stopping @ Spikes Keg O nails fro a burger)

When you leave has much more impact than which route you take. We have family in northern Michigan. The delays and stress of a Friday drive are not worth watching a Friday evening sunset up north. Get up early on Saturday, grab a donut and a cup of coffee, and sail to wherever you are going. Catch the sunrise instead.
