Bigger loss for 1 seed: Henson/Strickland, Dawson, or Melo.

Counting Roe is fucking stupid. This team has won or lost every game this season, and earned a Big Ten title, Big Ten Tournament Championship, and been selected as a 1 seed without Roe having played a single minute. He was a great Spartan, but he was not part of this team.

    True dat.

This country was built by people who worked hard then went home and had just a few too many every night. Then went back to work.

I guess Izzo is 'fucking stupid' for mentioning Roe's name when asked how much of a loss Dawson would be. This was on 'the herd' today...

Maybe so. I seem to remember izzo saying.

There are always plenty of excuses. But eventually you have to dig deep and get shit done.

I love Delvon but this post is spot on.

and just a FYI, I added Roe's name because the OP included Strickland's name...who's been out for a good part of the season yet UNC still won a conference title and earned a # 1 seed.

Roe played 0 games this season. Izzo was trying to make the point that Dawson's loss would have been less of an issue if Roe has still been on the team. Roe's loss (before the year began) makes it hurt even more that our #2 rebounded tore his ACL.

Strickland is hardly a fair comparison. UNC has a ton of guard talent to back him up. Secondly, Strickland DID play in half the season. He was there for the Carrier Classic + their games against Wisconsin, Kentucky, UNLV, Texas, and a few games at the beginning of conference play.

Strickland averaged 7.1 PPG, 2.1 RPG and 2.1 APG.
Dawson averaged 8.4 PPG, 4.5 RPG and 0.9 APG
Roe average 0.0 PPG, 0.0 RPG, and 0.0 APG.

It's really not a good point to count Roe at all.

  • How much playing time would Roe get on this team? Spot time with Green, taking minutes from Nix/Payne? It would be a benefit to have a quality player filling in while Green got his rest, much better than having Gauna or Byrd out there, but would you want Green having to share more of his minutes with Roe with as good as he's been this year? Do we need to take more playing time from Nix/Payne with as good as they've been playing? It obviously would have been great to have him this year, but I'm not sure how much actual playing time he'd get. Itd be that great depth for our frontline though. Green in foul trouble, Roes there to fill in, nix/payne in foul trouble or tired, Roe's a quality alternative. Would have been nice, plus you add Dawson to the lineup? drool

that would be like calling Kalin Lucas a huge loss for this team. He wasn't on the team to start the year. We would be better with him, but we didn't have him at all this year.

Right, because Kalin still had a year of elligibility.

  • Fab Melo - and it's not close. Centers are the cornerstone of the 2-3. They should be calling out where the screens and cutters are coming from. Also centers get the most action from driving guards looking to score or for the quick kick out. But It's hard to replace a good center for a 2-3, especially if he is 7 feet tall.

    All of them.

What that said, Melo. Syracuse can barely rebound as it is.

Roe no longer has eligibility either buddy.

Come on now. He only gave up that eligibility when he realized he was too hurt to play. Point being, he would be playing this season had he not been hurt.

  • Syracuse will hire Jim Delany as a consultant, and magically Melo will get reinstated for the tourney.

    Loose Stools

  • If people are including Roe for us then you have to include Leslie McDonald for UNC as well.

    bmrabbitt

  • Mine as well include Lucious too. Hell, throw in Allen.

  • For me it is Dawson. He's the only Spartan.

But he was hurt, and therefore unable to play this season. It's really hard to say how this team would have been with him on it. It's entirely possible that it could have hindered the development of Payne/Nix.

Roe did not play this season because of those injuries, so it's not accurate to consider him a loss in terms of the tournament. Were this debate taking place at the beginning of the season, legitimate point.

30+ games later, not so much.

Seriously? Roe probably would have started over Dawson.

It's stupid to mention Roe. He's not on the team you idiot and there are players who replaced him.

  • I'd say the biggest loss would be the Big East player of the year.

Roe is a non-issue, we didn't lose him, he hasn't been on the team all season. If you want to look at it as a loss, you might as well include Korie and Sherman in the discussion (even though we got Wood basically because Korie left and we are better now).

Big East defensive player of the year.

hoke- to alter or manipulate so as to give a deceptively or superficially improved quality or value.

    The Doctor

  • Henson will play at some point (but at what level?).

However, UNC also lost Leslie MacDonald and Dexter Strickland. As stacked as they are, they've been able to overcome those losses but against a regular team, that would be devastating.

I read an article, will try to find it that was written before Melo suspension. The article said the most significant injury to a team in the field was Branden Dawson from Michigan State. They pointed out how Dawson played in 31 of our games. Will try to find it.
