Bond Movies

  • Which are your favorites?

I'm watching the new ones and they are pretty good.

    Dr Seuss28223

  • My personal favorites by actor:

    Connery as 007: Thunderball
    Moore as 007: Octopussy
Everyone forgets about "on her magesty's secret service" which is understandable, nothing great
Dalton as 007: The Living Daylights
    Brosnan as 007: Goldeneye
Craig as 007: Quantum of Solace

    Greenup

  • They're all good except "on her magesty's secret service". The brosnan films wouldnt make the top of my list. Dalton was very underrated wish he would have made a few more.

    Top five would be
    thunderball
    goldfinger
    live and let die
    moonraker
    The living daylights

    RIP tRCMB

    MR Universe19299

  • My top five, listed chronologically...

    From Russia With Love
    Thunderball
    You Only Live Twice
    For Your Eyes Only
    Casino Royale

This! I thing Craig is the best Bond since Connery but Casino Royale was much better than Q of S.

Goldfinger is probably my favorite along with Casino Royale and To Russia With Love. On Her Majesty's Secret Service is very good except for the weird clothing worn by Lazenby. It's my favorite of the Fleming Bond books as well.

  • The group out there that hasn't seen the old Bond movies............have you seen Austin Powers?
Once you watch the old Bond movies you should really check out Austin Powers again. It's basically a great parody of these old classics.

Anyone else other than Sean Connery is a pale imitation and a MAC level Bond.

Completely agree with this statement. I was shocked that they picked him, but these last two Bond movies have certainly been some of my favorites. I liked Goldeneye, but wasn't a huge fan of Brosnon's movies as a whole. It got too much into Bond saving the entire world for me.

Was Q Of S the plot where the bad guy was trying to monopolize water in Belize or some shit? That should be on the worst Bond movie list.

Yep. That's the one. It's was a little too action oriented. I like how they continued with a storyline for once but that one sort of missed for me. Maybe I need to give it another chance.

I don't know much about the older Bond movies, but Octopussy was terrible. Roger Moore didn't make anything better? I ask this even though your opinion is irrelevant, since you said Quantum of Solace was better than Casino Royale.

I thought Dalton was really good in "The Living Daylights".

The Bronsan films are all terrible. Bond was trying to be all "mission impossible" in these movies with crazy gadgets and huge special effect explosions, and it got very distracting and resulted in terrible plot lines, forgettable characters. I enjoy the Moore films, but they are admittedly cheesy. Connory and Craig nail the James Bond character, and Dalton was pretty good too.

  • Moonraker is easily the worst of the Bond films for me.
Every Peirce Brosnan film would be next on my "worst Bond movies" list.

Does "Never say Never again" count as a Bond movie?

That's the whole point - they're not supposed to be sensible movies - the new ones take themselves far too seriously. And where's the ridiculous dialogue? E.g.

"I see you handle your weapon well."
"I have been known to keep my tip up."

"Oh, he always did have an inflated opinion of himself."

    "My God, what's Bond doing?"
    "I think he's attempting re-entry, sir."

"Yes, I love an early morning ride."
"Well, I'm an early riser myself."

"I always enjoyed learning a new tongue."
"You always were a cunning linguist, James."

    etc. etc.

Agreed, though I still think that the new bond movies are very good. Connory and Moore pulled off a good balance of serious and cheesy (Moore is more of a comedian and could deadpan the cheesy lines better though) and I don't think anyone will ever recreate that.

The only reason why I like Quantum of Solace more is because Casino Royale focuses too much on Texas Hold'em

Maybe I'm just an old school guy but in the books, I can't recall a time where Bond played poker and I'm sure it wasn't Texas hold'em. He usually played baccarat. I didn't like how it was almost a prequel and how it tried to explain Bond's personality that he shows in all of the movies before it.

Craig is my least favorite as 007. He is too businesslike. He doesn't have any witty comebacks and lacks a sense of humor that the others have shown in the previous movies.

Right. He's written like Fleming's Bond not Hollywood's Bond. He's an arrogant, misogynistic assassin who drinks too much and doesn't give a shit about anything.

As for Texas hold'em, I somewhat agree. But they have a large American audience that does not grasp baccarat and it was very popular and relevant at the time.

No it doesn't. Not from a franchise perspective. Plus it was pretty shitty (even though it was kind of a spinoff on the best film - Thunderball)

    1. Thunderball
    2. From Russia with Love
    3. Dr. No
