Book by tape...lazy or dumb?

Sorry for the harsh title, but while reading the thread about Devil in the White City, only 10 posts in or so two people mentioned that they listened to so and so book. This has to be considered either lazy or dumb right?

I'm assuming that you've never had an hour long commute to and from work. Great way to pass the time. Only thing you have to watch for is abridged versions.
Sometimes it's better on audiobook, especially if it's narrated by the author like David McCullough or if the narrator is excellent like Jim Dale who did all the Potter books.

Exactly. Driving 2 hours a day and you can either listen to books or listen to music. I usually choose music but the book option helps you get your learn on.

How old are you? Between work, marriage, and parenthood, I never find time to sit and read a book anymore. I listen to audiobooks while I mow, shovel, walk the dog, commute, etc. Two birds, one stone.
I guess I am lazy and stupid.

It does not matter the amount of time you are in your vehicle, if you listen to huge you are stupid.

Maybe take stupid out of the argument, but lazy? Yes. If you can't find 20 minutes to read a chapter of a book a night you need to have your wife make your work sandwiches to give you some time.

Audiobooks helped keep me sane when I was driving to Detroit and back to Marquette every weekend for 10 months. Now THAT was stupid, but certainly not lazy.

There were days when I actually looked forward to the drive home even because I wanted to know what happened next in the book. I didn't listen to them all the time, but it was a great change of pace from sports talk and NPR once in a while.

I guess I get it, but if married people with kids can spend 4+ hours every weekend watching MSU football, and 3 hours on random weeknights watching MSU basketball how can't they find 20-30 mins to read a book?

I have an unhealthy addiction to audiobooks. Pretty much any time I'm doing work around the house, driving, walking to class, or anything else I have one on. I love them.

24 hour drives to SLC, 11 hour drives to Copper Harbor, etc.
Great way to stay awake a 3am.

Or like me and others they are road warriors, people who drive a lot for their jobs.
There is only so much political talk, sports talk and NPR you can stand. Talking books or books on tape/cd's is a great way to "read" books in the dead time aka windshield time.
