  • Seems like UofM will have a very strong in-state recruiting class for 2012. They can dismiss the past 3 years by just saying RichRod was a clown (quite a bit of truth to this). What MSU needs is to keep competing for Big10 titles in the next few years, and of course beating Michigan.

    Also seems like Dantonio has made some great out of state recruiting connections that he'll hopefully be able to utilize for the 2012 class.

Because its going to happen a lot, there a new hoke in ann arbor. Mr wiltfong can let us know about msu, I don't care when some jamal 18 yr old wants to have wings on his helmet.

    We don't have a single commitment for 2012. It's freaking March. People seeing it as a "sign of things to come" are stupid to base it off one recruit. The kid obviously didn't want to come to MSU. There's a lot of kids every year that don't want to come to MSU. Big Deal.

    I don't think people are TOO worried, just more sad that RR didn't stay in AA for a few more years so we could develop some even stronger in state recruiting ties. Now that hoke is there I think its going to be more of a battle for big time instate recruits, since he actually cares about instate recruits.

    We knew this year was going to be a bit tougher for MSU in state because 2 of the top 5 recruits are Cass Tech kids, and #1 recruit, James Ross, stated he doesn't like MSU's LB depth (we don't graduate a LB until 2012). That was going to be a problem even with RichRod in AA.

    Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

  • Guys...as MSU alumni, fans, stakeholders, we can't be complicit in the UM spin suggesting UM will own the state with Hoke. Fact is, they never left it under RichRod. Even under Carr, UM only averaged 5-6 MI commits.

    Consider the following breakdown of MI commits to UM (MSU) since 2003:

    2003 - 6 (3)
    2004 - 6 (7)
    2005 - 6 (6)
    2006 - 4 (6)
    2006 - 5 (5)

    RichRod:
    2007 - 5 (7)
    2008 - 5 (13)
    2009 - 4 (12)
    2010 - 4 (10)

    Under Hoke (with RichRod):
    2011 - 6 (5)

    UM's biggest issue under RichRod wasn't necessarily the battles he lost with MSU, rather not keeping the likes of Fisher, Mathis, Zettel, etc. to stay in MI. Those guys were never coming to MSU anyway.

    The last four seasons, MSU has done an outstanding job building relationships and this staff as positioned MSU to be a REAL player for any recruit with an open heart (i.e. UM fans). This will continue. That is providing MD continues his method and focus, which he will.

    As MSU wins consistently, the footprint will grow. As it has and as it must to find QUALITY players. And make NO mistake about it, it is about QUALITY people - not necessarily where they are from. Look at MI, you can see all types of peaks and valley's in the numbers above. Perhaps as important as MI, our staff has a GREAT reputation in OH.

    The great thing about our staff, I would not trade it for The Savior and The Grown Ups. Take away the UM hype machine, we have a great thing going on in EL. Do not let anyone tell you differently.

  • Rockford runs a semi-gimmicky offense that wins a lot of games at the high school level. It doesn't however produce a lot of top talent.

    I won't be worried about scUM until they actually prove something on the field against tough competition.

  • We should all know by now the methods and the skills that Coach D has in identifying, recruiting, and coaching talent.

    As others have said, just because Hoke is transitioning back to the old scUM style, doesn't mean that we are going to get steamrolled instate recruiting.

    Posted this before, but we need to over a 4-5 year period with 20 recruits on avg:

    * get at least a draw with scUM on the top 15 MI kids (6-7 annually on avg)
    * get 5-7 from top 40 in Ohio and work to be the solid #2 choice
    * get 5-7 3* plus from Big Ten region (PA, IL, IN, etc)
    * get 2-4 3* kids from GA, FL, NJ

    There is enough talent with the first two of MI and OH for us to be a consistent bowl team averaging 7-8 wins a season. Its the the special talents that Coach D is able to snag that will make the diff to championship level.
